So the latest round of failed experiments.
Stealth+: I fight a push off the tee, and in the chase for distance, I said let me go down in loft but set the head to higher loft/closed face, should be perfect right?
Was pretty much a fail. The stealth plus head feels pretty damn good, but just couldn't spin a 9 degree head enough.
G425 hybrid: pretty good feeling club, but one weird thing I noticed on the golf course is because the head is so shallow, if you hit it out of the first cut and catch it a touch high on the shallow head, it has very little spin. Also because it's so shallow, wasn't comfortable hitting it off a tee for fears of roofing it 😅
The things that are working.
I looked at my stats from the last few rounds I've played this year and the majority of lost strokes come from two areas: off the tee with less than driver and bunker play.
So I was on a mission to put as many clubs that I can comfortably hit off the tee as possible.
Went back to the 300 mini driver as three wood replacement. Don't know why I ever took it out. I barely tee it off the ground, maybe a quarter inch, hit down on the ball, get a nice high flight that has plenty of spin to hold its line.
Stealth + frankenwood.
The idea here was that the apex UW was a pretty good club and got me thinking.
There's a 2 iron. What's longer and more forgiving than a 2i?
Hybrid. What's longer and more forgiving than a hybrid?
Apex UW. What's longer and more forgiving than a UW?
7 wood.
But the 7 woods I hit spun a little too much for me, and I need that club to be able to have an extra gear to cover the lack of a 3 wood for me.
Enter
5 wood, set to 19.75 degrees, but a low spin head, playing at 41.5", so I can play it like a hybrid with 3/4 swings, but also really stretch it to go after yardage.
And it's got a decently deep face so I have no worries about roofing it off the tee.
and Tsi3 still remains the best overall driver I've played in years.
