Well this is the ONLY photo I could find of my Dad's old hot rod that he sold last year. It's a 1929 DeSoto (and for anyone into older cars....yes I know the grill is from a "32 Ford.....pops had the original grill but preferred the look of the Ford one). Anyways, he bought it from a dude when I was in elementary school and I remember him bringing it home and being so excited to build it back up. He used to have a "55 Chevy truck that was so clean but sold it to work on this car. I was shocked....the thing still had the original wooden rims....literally BONE stock....even the rumble seat was original (and barely in tact). It was super straight but obviously needed a ton of work. Fun fact....there were only 2 1929's we could find registered in California at the time which was kind of neat. I helped pops with it over many many years to get it to the photo.....which was also taken shit probably 15-20 years ago. 327 small block in it bored to something like a 333, the blower got it to about 650-700 HP (I never saw it dyno'd) but it did push 10's in the quarter mile. Super fun car to drive as loud as hell.
My brother was huge into cars as well and my dad and him built up a 1970 Nova with a 383 pushing nitrous. It was the fastest car I've ever been in. Looked like absolute shit because he invested everything into the engine....racing seats (no back seat since it was a 2 door and it added too much weight), 6 different gray primer colors lol, mini tub, but straight as an arrow. He wrapped it around a tree running from the cops after a race one night. Jaws of life to get him out but he was ok....the car was not. I was just about to turn 15 and told my dad I wanted to get a '64 Nova (Chevy II) for my first car and was on the hunt. After that night, pops put the kibosh on any more muscle cars in the family ๐.
It was great growing up with mechanics in the house though. I'm not nearly as skilled as my dad or brother (I was more dedicated to school and sports like a donk) but it was super fun getting to help them out. My brother's best friend had a Cobra like the one in @ckay post that I used to help with. That ran nitrous too....super nice cars and so fast. It's crazy how much power the late 80s and early 90s mustangs put out....and they handle so well. Memories!
