Would love to hear peoples takes on the SGL. Is it good for golf? Bad for golf? Will it actually happen?

I have no issues with SGL. If these guys can pull $100MM contracts to play over there, bless their hearts.

I could care less. If you can create and develop a rival league and make it work, good on you. It's been tried on so many levels in different sports over the decades. It's not easy to make happen. But I'm all about options. I can't imagine having essentially only one avenue of working in my profession. If a guy wants to go bring in a guaranteed $100m+ contract versus toiling away in getting paid for finishing middle of the pack for PGA tournaments, by all means, get paid!!!

Besides the politics in it, what is the benefit. I know the pros will get more money. As a fan if it just dilutes everything like this past week I am not for it. The Saudi tournament is boring and the course stinks. All of the guys they have right now are past their prime. Poulter and Westwood I don't want to watch that. This is just history repeating it self with Jack back in the day and the World Golf League. The PGA obliviously needs to pay more to pro's there is to many tournament's that don't mean anything. At least the PGL is trying to do something different.

I would say it seems like the TOUR has been more focused on their own revenues/stature with the idea that a few superstars can further turbocharge their revenues. Does the TOUR rhetoric seem like its 100% players driven (after all that what the TOUR is supposed to be)? Players don't seem happy that the balance of power has shifted from the players to the tournament stewards. I wonder too if the treatment by those trying to get into the top 100 is a consideration. It's all about focusing on the top 10 without a ton of focus on the others. Heck, even the Canadian tour players--many of whom moved to Jacksonville--were kicked off the valley course (not the Stadium), which is just one of many house-laden Florida courses. That seems particularly heartless considering these guys might now have to break their leases and sell everything to move to some other TPC they can practice. That's not easy for a guy just trying to pay for his gas on a lower tour. Recent statements by De Chambeau and Mickelson I think capture what I see happening.

So my thoughts are this. I think it's funny how salty the PGA tour is being about this. Paying Golf Digest and other outlets to post about how bad this is for golf. TBH I could care less. I just want to watch exciting golf. The one thing that does intrigue me is the "team aspect" of it all. Being able to root for a certain team could be really fun. Almost like when you draft players for your pool during Major weeks and such, but you'd get to root for groups of people on a weekly basis. I don't follow F1, but it sounds like that's kind the play there? I think if executed correctly, it could be really cool...but I think the Tour holds too much power right now paying off people for negative press, as well as giving a lifetime Ban if you join the the SGL...might not get off the ground.

ForeLeft The team aspect isn't the SGL its the PGL. The saudi league will just be like a rolex series for the Asian tour.

I’m out on the Saudi sports washing. The PGL on the other hand is very intriguing, but find it hard to believe they’ll ever get buyin from PGA and sounds like that’s the route they prefer at this point.

My current impression is that the current Phil is using this as leverage to attempt to change the PGA Tour. Bryson has already impacted the Tour in ways that Phil has never been able to because he competed directly with Tiger.

If Bryson wants to take $75-100M to set himself and his family up for generations why would you criticize him?

So Bryson has said he's not going, Phil's called them a group of, well I won't paraphrase, and it seems like SGL blew up before it even got some people signed, I'm curious what are the behind the scenes going ons that are causing this ebb and flow.

Surprised somebody like BK won’t take the money. He’s said it many times most of the events outside of the Majors don’t interest him. Morikawa said it best, he’s dreamed about making it onto the PGA Tour, why change course? But then again guaranteed 50-100MM now versus over a career is a huge difference.

I don’t get why it’s a big deal where these guys hit a little ball. The game is awful to watch on tv with the horrendous broadcasting.

if they aren’t happy winning 1M plus on the us tour, go somewhere else. They can keep all their comments to themself, on the record or not. Just stop saying words and hit that little ball.
