Little late to this party (almost a year), but seemed like a good place to ask my question. I know some of you are quite well-versed in shafts.
First to answer the original question by @dphatt , I get fitted all the time whenever I plan to buy a new driver or set of irons, outdoors, typically on mats, usually at Titleist Thursdays events. I admit to being a Titleist snob. I don't remember what launch monitor they use, but I think it's usually a Trackman. I don't take the numbers too seriously. For me, it's what I see and feel that matters.
Typically, I never seem to have my best swing on fitting days, but that seems to be a common issue for many of us who lay our swing bare to someone we don't know, who we suspect is somewhat judgemental, just by the nature of their job.
Me: "Geez, I never fade it. I don't know where that's coming from. My miss is left 90% of the time!"
Fitter: "Sure, whatever."
Me: "No, really. I'm not shittin' you."
Fitter: "Okay." Rolling eyes.
Fitting is not my favorite activity, though I do it out of curiosity and to make sure I feel the comparative differences in my hands.
In any case, here is my pre-mumble and question. I really like the Tensei Blue shafts I play in both my TS2 Driver and 818H2 21* hybrid. I was fit for both clubs, as well as my 917F2 15* fairway, which has a Diamana Blueboard in it. All are stiff flex. I have been shopping around, looking for a great deal on a very slightly/lightly used TSi2 3W. Mostly on Ebay. Well, I ended up winning an auction on one for a price with which I was quite happy. 1/3 off list. If this thing has been hit more than 20 times I'd be surprised. It looks new.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize it at the time, but I mistakenly bid on one with a regular flex, KuroKage 55 Black shaft in it. I had only been bidding on TSi2s with Tensei Blue stiff shafts when I saw this one, but was so focused on how perfect the head seemed, I forgot to read the description of the shaft, which clearly stated R flex. My bad.
So anyway, I have a PX Evenflow Blue driver shaft kicking around that I rarely use because it's 3/4 of an inch short for my standard length, TS2 driver. I like the feel of it, but think the fact that it is less than full-length, subconsciously bothers me a little. I might like it, or at least like to try it in my 3W, though. That said, I was thinking of cutting it down further for use in the new TSi2 head. Will it play stiffer if I trim it only from the butt end (so I don't have to replace the Titleist adapter)? I already cut the tip a little to put the adapter on in the first place, since the shaft was already used when I got it and the tip was a bit rough from the initial pull procedure. It's a 5.5 flex (R+), but I assume cutting it will stiffen it, which is okay. I don't have a problem with it being stiffer, as long as it doesn't become too stiff. How much will it affect swingweight by taking 2" (approx) off the butt end? A little heavier swingweight is fine with me. I like to feel the head in my swing.
Opinions appreciated. What say you?
