dphatt I haven’t had a fitting in 4 seasons. My irons are pretty simple as I’ve always played a DG shaft. I went Nippon SPB three years ago when I built the CB-57, no fitting and just based on past playing history. If I dive into the world of more techy heads I’ll do a fitting. I’ve played blades or a simple forged CB for so long it isn’t about anything else other than feel of the shaft, and staying within my normal yardages.
As for driver, I know I prefer a softer butt and a profile that stiffens as it gets towards the tip(that’s what she said). I assume I am leaving yards on the table but I don’t need more distance, just need something to trust and not worry about where it’s going.
Back in my ho’ing days it was all about LM data and seeking the best numbers. Driver combos never lasted more than a few rounds. It just ended up being a fruitless exercise of fitting, buying, playing, selling, another fitting, etc. Never scored any better, and never felt confident on the tee which is a big problem.
I built an M6 on TZ6 this winter. Trackman numbers were close to my M3 440 on Pro White. Figured the added forgiveness will be helpful. Hit a few blocks early and didn’t trust it any longer.
For me, if I can have confidence in my clubs which comes from a long relationship with said clubs, then I know I’ll hit good shots. Believe me I loved to hoe clubs. I’ve got the BSG invoices to prove it! It’s all mental and I decided not to let Trackman determine what to play.
