  • Refinishing old irons / club builder recommendations?

Hi guys, I'm thinking about picking up an old set of irons and refinishing them just for the shits and giggles. Any recommendations?

I'm also looking to get a set of irons shafted and gripped and whatnot, the whole nine yards 🤦‍♂️ can anyone point me in the right direction for the lowest cost overall?

Appreciate it a lot my friends 😁

What type of refinishing? Stripping to raw I haven’t found anyone cheaper than Oughton’s. Any chrome work I’ve seen a lot of people go to Iron Factory but at that point you’re probably better off buying a nicer set as it starts to add up.

Iron Factory is great but like Ckay mentioned I haven't seen stripping for cheaper than Oughtons. Looking forward to trying them out sooner than later! A lot of people mentioned calling around local metal shops asking about stripping and if you can get enough heads it might be less due to not shipping.

Putterho I would probably avoid local metal shops as you won't know what the finished product looks like. I have seen some heads come back from other strippers corroded or with some chemical coloration that would require the end user to have to spend some time with a scuff pad to bring them back to a consistent color so whatever potential cost savings went out the window with your own labor. With Oughton's you have a good idea of the quality and can expect them to be ready to rebuild.

When I got mine back from Oughton's, I was prepared to at least put a scuff pad to them but to my surprise the finishing work was already done and the faces were sandblasted. All I had to do was weigh them, assign appropriate tip weights to each head for the 5-7.5g of weight loss and rebuild them.

ckay Do you have an email or contact for Oughton's? Time to send them some stuff.

Doug is the owner and proprietor of the shop. Old school character so give him a day or two to reply to any inquiries as he is the one who does the work, and also replies to all of the E-mails.

My set took 4 weeks during the stay at home period of the pandemic and he was busier than he has ever been back in April. Hopefully things slowed down for him to get your stuff done quicker but if you aren't in a rush, that's even better.

What are you sending out?? I will send my CB-57s along with some SM7s over the winter to keep me busy.

I sent you a pic of clubs he did for me on IG.

I was thinking about an old set of Colokroms, but wanted to freshen up the copper face and take out some dings on the soles 😅 I want it to be a complete "new to me" experience hahaha

Oof I may have to hold off on the refinishing at $125 a club to completely refurbish and set up the clubs...
