Wondering what wedge setups you guys play and why? im heading to artisan next week to get fitted and I’ve always wondered if I’m playing correct bounce ..some people say they play diff bounces depending on course conditions and was wondering how you guys decide on wedges

ekaj Fourteen RM Tour. I was fitted for these by the tour rep so he has my specs. The one thing I did change a few years ago was to go slightly wider sole in the 60 and have a good amount of heel relief. My lofts are 50, 54, 60.

ekaj ever since I was fitted with Bob Vokey, I've stuck to at least two things I learned. First, I play a 3 wedge setup with 4-5* between gappings (for me it's 52-57-62) and I play different bounces for each wedge dependent on what I want it to do and what my "usual" course are like. Where an L grind with low bounce may make a lot of sense in Bandon or Texas, it would be brutal in SoCal.

Go in there and say you know nothing about wedges. Swing your swing. Are you a sweeper? Digger? Let Jamie work his magic. We didn’t even talk bounce, I have zero idea what my bounce is. They focus on grind. The old “saying” is, firm conditions need less bounce and soft conditions need more. Sweeper = less bounce Digger = more bounce But forget that shit next week. Just take swings. I went through 4 grinds before I was like “holy shit, what is this”. 50/54/59 for me. Covers 130 and in.

50/54/58 has worked for me for the last decade or so. 50 is 100% full swing, 54 is a higher bounce wedge, and 58 is a low bounce wedge.

I’m going SM8 in 50/56 and Hi Toe in 60°. Love them.

56* SW (TaylorMade TW Grind)
60* LW (TaylorMade TW Grind)

I've used a 52 in the past, but with the weak pitching wedge and the versatility of the TW 56 it is not really necessary for me. I'd rather hit a flighted pw than a full gw.

For me, 5 degree gaps give me the 13-15 yard gaps that I am looking for.

Also, one thing I think is overlooked is the total length of the wedges as well.

My PW and 50 are very close in length, with my 55 and 60 being close in length. 35.5 and 35ish to end of grip, respectively.

Doing the standard 50-54-60, but I'm trying out replacing the 54 and 60 with just a 56 hi toe. Dunno, but I see myself pulling the 60 out of the bag too often to poor results. Need to resist the urge to flop everything.

Super tempted at the TW 56 though ugh

titleistforged I got them, too. I think they are both incredibly versatile, if you know what you are doing and how to use the different parts of the sole.
As an example, you can turn the 56 into a 52/53 so easily, if you put you're hands forward and hit a ropey draw, because you have a ton of bounce on the leading edge. The club doesn't get stuck in the ground as much as other sand wedges I've used in the past.

I went to a 43(9i)-47-53-58 setup a few years ago and it has been a game changer. Having that extra club in the long end of the bag to fill the gap between 3i and 4w is a huge help, and I try to never hit a full wedge anyways, so i'm a huge proponent of less wedges and more creative shot making

I do like @aharrelson358 ideas as I have a big gap at the top that I will look to redo when the new sticks are decided upon early next year.

At the moment there is no rhyme or reason with gaps or clubs for that matter because I literally took 2 wedges from my instructors demos during a lesson that he handed me because my Indigo Vokey M grinds weren't cutting it. I had so much success during the lesson that I just bought them and stuck them in the bag. One day I'll just say ScottEG grind me an exact Miura version of these Callaways and call it a day.

geaux That was my thought process. I always found myself torn between the stepping on the 54 and babying the 50, so the 3 wedge bag was born and I haven't looked back since.
