I have to say I used to be a big Cameron guy but I feel like his brand has become stale. The retail line has gotten better but his accessories are no where near the smaller boutiques. I have also seen a lot of my friends who were die hard Cameron fans turn to other brands too. With more people going towards mallets does he try and cater to that line even though that is not his bread and butter? With all of these smaller boutique putter makers coming up you can have a custom putter built from scratch now. Does that take away from his line since you can no longer order a custom circle T? I think that in the end the Cameron name will always be the gold standard but I think he is starting to lose the people who got him to where he is today.

The rise of social media (especially IG) has helped the "small guys" a ton. Just think about the number of custom putter makers like Goodwood that have come up in the past few years. Heck, you can get a completely custom GSS Anser 2 from Kingston for 670.

I agree Don. I still roll a Scotty and haven't wavered in 10 years, but his Brand is not what it once was. My collection is in storage, but most is going to be sold as soon as it comes out. I'm just thankful that I have met so many people I now consider friends over the last 10 years all due to the Scotty Brand.

I lost interest in Cameron several years ago though I will say I was never a collector of his putters. I've had several over the years but never collected them. I did collect covers for a bit but sold them all. I'm all about the small boutique maker these days.

When it comes to putters I have a simple rule. Have I ever met the designer of the putter and talked shop? Do I like the putter and his company? If the answer is yes then I'll buy it. I'd like to think that I am not a one trick pony even though a Scotty is in the bag 98% of the time. As for the brand being stale I can understand it from a headcover perspective but did it become stale because he changed or did our own tastes change leaving us desiring more? It would seem like it's going stale because he still does the same thing that built the brand. I'm still drinking the Cameron Kool-Aid even though my own personal tastes have changed over the years.

I still roll an SC and agree with @Putterho above in that meeting him, talking shop, and meeting tons of people on this forum through his brand (thanks for the Masters visor @dphatt !) are big reasons why I will still be a fan. I didn't join TCC for 2 years because I don't really care for all his covers anymore, the stand bags just got out of control to get and I would end up selling them admittedly to fund other purchases because I don't collect bags. I didn't want to be a flipper so I just stopped even trying to get the stuff. I got the TCC welcome bag this year because I wanted the den caddie because I needed something to put all my headcovers in and I thought it was a steal for $100. I haven't even been online for a release this year though because I know ultimately the stuff wont be for me. Also helps that PM polos never have fit me in a Small so I'm never tempted there. Some of the t-shirts I like but my buddy lives down in La Jolla and can always swing by the shop for me if needed. Once I landed my grail Timeless with Tungsten I knew I didn't really need anything else from a putter perspective since I game everything I own. I will say that at some point I may go to him for a putter fitting because the staff there is great and I wouldn't mind having someone tell me what the hell I should be playing if it's going to help me sink putts haha. I think naturally since a lot of the homies here have put me on to other brands like SSC, TBC, RTS, Mac, etc. I was more inclined to support smaller businesses that listen to the consumer a bit more (no knock on SC he is running a majorly profitable business). Also like @Golfingfanatic says.....IG has made it so the smaller guys can access us degenerates....I mean connoisseurs....so we can try out different things that suit us. Scotty's IG game is just weak for the most part......

I agree, I enjoy Club Cameron still as it fills the gaps with some release hype. I rarely purchase but I enjoy the hype on release days. The membership swag justifies the cost of membership. His designs are meh at this point. The smaller guys are leaving him behind. Swag does an incredible job. TBC has some good releases as well. Those are the only two I really follow. Scotty's putters, retail or not are still very nice.

I’ve strayed far away, haven’t purchased anything non OTR putter wise for quite some time. Still like the putters, other merch not as much because it has become stale for me. Some of that “staleness” I think is well beyond Scotty’s control and some of it is I have simply moved on to other brands that I find more interesting.

I must say though, a good chunk of my collection that I sold off a couple years back helped fund purchasing my 1968 Chevelle SS!

The putters were great until I leaned how to putt. I’m not sure I’ll ever leave the Spider, even though I always look around. It’s ugly but, it works really well for me. I’m not saying Spiders are the king, I’m just saying they’re the king for me and my game. I’d love to game a 009 or Concept 1 or a shlong neck etc... but I know I never will. Would love an Indy Tiffany CT in the bag but, it won’t happen. SC is an incredible dude, very nice, and pretty funny. His brand? Well, he’s a wild card, always has been design wise.

I'm a novice in the SC world (only do retail putters and headcovers), but FWIW, the boutique guys (like Black Lab and Goodwood) having full custom options at a ridiculous price point sort of makes Scotty hard to consider. Not that I have a budget, but it's hard to drop big dimes on Circle Ts, just to end up not liking them. I echo Don's statement about mallets being all the rage, as I recently re-discovered my love for a mallet. I also just discovered Swag Golf/TBC/Sugar Skull/etc, and stuff like that is more "appealing" given its wide variety.

Scotty makes great putters, 100%, but their accessories and more can't keep up.

I was a big Scotty fan for a long time and still love a 009 even though I can’t putt with one. It lost its luster to me when the gallery opened. The great part about this habit we all have is the hunt and the people you meet along the way. The hunt just wasn’t the same after the gallery opened. Releasing 3 or 4 putters a week and needing no more than a trip to San Diego for gear took the fun out of it. I don’t even want a shiny GSS or 009 from the gallery. I want the one with a story behind it that has seen the greens of the PGA tour. “For Tour Use Only” and CT don’t mean the same when they come out of a store and not out of a players garage or off a tour truck. Does he still make good putters? Sure and still the best OTR feeling putters out there. I grew up on Scotty’s. Still admire the greats he has done over the years but the market has become too saturated for me to still be on the hunt. Still of fan of the OG Scotty greatness and the people I have met along the way but the new gallery stuff just doesn’t do it for me. That said.... I’m def trying the new JT putter no matter how ugly the logo is!! 🤣🤣 If it puts like a spider and feels like a Scotty I’m all in!

Another thing that bothers me is you think you have a distinct putter and then find out there’s a few others that are damn near the same. I got a 009M last year at The Gallery and I use it to this day, but I’ve seen at least two others that are pretty similar in stamping.

TFixer5 yeah I was on a massive hunt during quarantine to get back into a 009 but the more I watched the releases, the more duplicates came out. Glad I found success with a Spider because that halted my search.

TFixer5 Agree here homie. That's why I've always gravitated toward the older SC tour putters because there seems to be a bit more 1 offs you can find. I know my Timeless has a twin out there....I actually think @dphatt owned a similar one at some point or still might. That being said, I haven't seen a ton of it around. There are some nice new things coming out for sure but I almost feel like even the Craftsman putters are starting to get repetitive and duplicate-like.
