Shew, buddy. What a weekend.
Pinehurst #1 was a really fun track. Not difficult and the greens were rolling so nice. This was the day of squandered chances for me as I hit it really well off the tee. Pinehurst Resort in general is everything it is cracked up to be. We spent a lot of time on Thistle Du Friday after the round and on Sunday morning when we hit the pro shop. Unfortunately, The Cradle was booked solid every time we had some time to play it. I can't wait to get back and play the other gems out there.
Legacy was not a bad track either. It was in good shape and probably one of the better values I have played. It was really laid back so the guys in my group that don't play much felt right at home. I would skip it going back with a smaller group of golf fanatics but it was a good fit for this group.
Sunday was kind of brutal. Mid Pines was so, so cool. I loved the old clubhouse, the feel of the place, and the course was incredible. But I drove it all over the place and the course ate me up. My biggest disappointment was the pace of place, which is frustrating on a good day and maddening when you are fighting it. There was a group of Seniors playing some kind of event in front of our group and it was an excruciating 6 hour round, with the front being 3 and a half. The first group of ours was the only threesome and they actually just quit with about 4 holes left.
Ironwood Cafe was terrific. Great meal. Pinehurst Brewing was a cool spot with a some decent beers, but the food really wasn't great.
That area is just incredible. Kicking myself that I had never been down there before but I already can't wait to get back. Thanks again to everyone for all the tips!
