What are you guys playing? Head, shaft, length? I am probably duplicating yardages with my 2 UDI but I would like a club that does better from the fairway into a par 5 meaning higher trajectory and steeper descent into the green. I am a TM woods fan, and considering a SIM. Also think about the SIM MAX hybrid to potentially replace the UDI, but the UDI is so damn good for me off of the tee. Not interested in a 3 wood as I have one I somewhat trust. Just don’t play holes long enough where a 3 wood makes sense and I would probably lay up from the 260+ number anyway rather than get myself in trouble or even duff it which I’ve done before and still feel the sting from. I’ve gone the 4 wood route and it was a little longer than I needed for most of the courses I play.

Laugh at me all you want, but my play this year has been the Sexwood. Shoutout TC I play a g410 7 wood with a Ventus 8s, tipped 1/2". I have it turned down all the way (essentially making it a 6 wood), and it's the length of a 5 wood. It is an absolute assassin on par 5's. Great 240 club off the tee for when less than driver is needed. Fairway finder! It launches super high and is very forgiving. Would definitely call it my money club. My only change I'd make it putting in a matching graphite design AD XC in x flex to match my driver, and bring the flight down a little bit.

I used to play a 4w/7w combo when I had my Pings but switched to a Cobra F8 3w/5w setup a couple years. Really been enjoying the Cobra woods though I'm a year or two behind from the current stuff. Can't say that I'm really that tempted to change right now.

When they were still available I played 3HL heads. I'm currently in an M5 5 wood and it has been the best fairway I've ever played and the only fairway in my bag. I picked up a tour head this year so I could pick specs and since the SIM is out, they were more than reasonable. My miss with fairway woods has always been hard left and the ability to put all that weight toward the toe has been great. This thing is a cannon.

KentonQ what weight shaft are you playing? I used to play 70 and 80 but dropped to 60 in driver and unsure if I go 70 or 80 at this stage. Maybe the move is pick up something on the cheaper side to experiment with. I had an M2 Tour but the sweetspot was smaller than a dime.

ckay I'm playing the 80TX in my 5 wood. I play the 70TX in my driver. But I play them both shorter than the current "standard". So I would keep in mind the playing length you're going to use and the total club weight more than focusing on the 70g vs 80g weight classes. If you want to experiment, I would definitely suggest picking up an M5. I would think you could get one or a song without much searching.

I’m playing an M6 head with a fuji shaft on it. Was my favorite club before I just picked up my sim three wood. To me, the three wood just gives me the confidence to smash it.

I know we share the affinity for TM heads, but the Callaway Super Hybrid might be a viable option. It's hot, and size wise sits dead in between a hybrid and a fairway wood head, and is plenty long. (killer stock shaft too, tungsten Tensei Orange Pro) Before I got my PXG hybrid, I was debating between super hybrid and 5 wood to swap out on days where UDI isn't needed (similar predicament to you), and as much as I dislike PXG in general, the hybrid is great and plenty long. I just worry if a 4 wood was too long for the yardage you are trying to fill, a 5 wood might be as well. And for a control club, I'm a huge proponent of the shorter the club the better, especially out of less than perfect flat lies.

Rock the M2 with a ADDI 7s. No idea on length 😂. This club will carry 250 on the number. My 1i will also carry 250 on the number. I use my 1i if I’m going to play a course that really tight, a course that I can’t reach par 5’s in the air (mega roll), or if the course is super dry. I use the 5w if the course has reachable par 5’s (260 and in). If the green is reachable, I need it high and to land soft. For courses I’ve never played (competition rounds), I’ll bag both. I’ve wanted an M5 5w but, I’ve dropped too much on stuff this year. And the current M2 works nice.

I play a 917 f2 18* with a B1 setting and the weight option in fade. I want the flattest fairway wood I can get so I'd at some point probably consider the 410 since it has a flat lie angle. I think if you're a TM guy, I'd look for a tour issue m5 TI 5 wood and just find one at the perfect specs you like. They're probably dirt cheap since the SIMs are out.

Just dropped my 3 wood from the bag and now going Driver, 5 wood. Have a Ping G410 5 wood with the evenflow black 85 stiff flex playing it at 41.5". It's been far more consistent off the deck than the 3 wood and I'm really only giving up 10-15 yards max of carry from the 3 wood.

Just a quick update, moving to a 5 wood was the best equipment move I made in years. I will miss the 2 UDI, and the comments from randoms you are paired up with when you get that distinctive crack off of the face and fly it past them. The SIM Ti 5 wood is absolutely money in terms of forgiveness and utility from the tee to the turf.

I was suppposed to buy a 3 wood, since having a 5 wood "wasn't enough." Turns out, a 5 wood is just fine.

I was playing my LTD 4/5 at 16 deg, and now I've tuned it down to 18.5 deg and it works honestly. The courses I play just seem to work well with either driver of the tee, or if I don't, then I can just use the wood or even an iron.

Been a few rounds with just driver and 5w onwards, off the tee results haven't really changed. Shrug.

Same here. Sim 5W with Ventus blue has been the best purchase I made recently. My love hate relationship with the 3 hybrid took a toll on my game. Decided to give the 5W a try and haven’t looked back. So easy off the deck and rough, no more dead hooks into the woods lol

Jumping on the 5W bandwagon with a G425 Max with Aldila Rogue White which will be replacing my 3H. I had a feeling that I would probably like it but it exceeded my expectations. I was told that it will ship in 3-4 weeks which is way sooner than I was expecting, so we'll see if Ping actually pulls through.

Callaway Rogue 5W with stock Evenflow shaft. Can't let myself sideline it. It's as close to automatic as anything in my bag. However, i did get the TS2 3W recently and that thing is wonderful. I may have to add the 5W to match it.

dbenick3 i have the Rogue 3W to match my 5W as well. Its pretty automatic too, just lots of spin. I hit a fairway wood off the 6 times per round at my club. My 3w is equally important as my driver when playing at my home course.
