I got to spend some time with these clubs and here are my initial takes on each of them. I didn’t spend a whole lot of time hitting the blade or the DHY as it didn’t interest me.
P770
This was the one club that had me intrigued the most since I am playing the P790s. To be honest I was a little disappointed in how they looked compared to the P790s. They looked pretty much identical in shape and size. I did only hit the 6 iron so I am assuming the other irons will look smaller than the P790s. The other thing that I thought was weird was there looked to be more offset on the P770 than my P790s. This was a little baffling as the P770 was a little bit weaker in loft. On to the performance. The initial shots felt and sounded like the P790. The numbers were almost identical with a slightly higher apex. This is not a bad thing for me as I do not hit the ball that high. These will still be a consideration for me but I am not really sure I am getting that much more than what I have in the P790s.
P7MC
This is one club I really didn’t have interest in because I never liked the old RAC TPs. The head is a touch smaller than the P790 and the topline is a touch thinner too. The feel is what I would assume a forged club to feel like, soft. The numbers were actually surprising to me as the spin was a good amount lower than the P770. The carry numbers were the same but the apex was a good amount lower. The forgiveness was actually pretty good for a club of this size. I did have the P770 and MC bent to the same lofts for comparison sake.
P7MB
This thing is tiny and I hit maybe 6-7 shots before I said no more. It’s a blade and performed like one which did not interest me. I was probably a good 1.5 clubs shorter on this than the others.
SIM UDI
This looks and performs similar to the P790 UDI. The one thing that I noticed that they changed was they added more mass in the heel and you can see it at address. I feel like this club sits right in between the UDI and the GAPR. Again this is a club I would never have in the bag so I didn’t spend too much time hitting it.
SIM DHY
This thing is just plain ugly and bulky. This reminded me of the GAPR. I only hit the 3 and all I got were knuckle bullets. This was another club that didn’t interest me so I didn’t spend too much time with it.
Takeaways
I will probably order the P770s in steel as I already have the P790s in the MMT. One of them will be the backup set depending on my mood. They are pretty identical so I think I could swap them in and out at any time. The MCs do intrigue me as I do miss the forged feel but the low spin and apex scare me.
