So I was really close to saying Fck this experiment.
I bought the TWs used because you can't order 7-pw from Taylormade.
So after a disastrous range session, I had the club guru break them down.
They had 5 wraps under the grip, were 2 degrees upright from std (I play 2 degrees flat), and each club weighed anywhere from 13-18g heavier total weight than my 790s. No wonder why I hated my first few sessions with them.
I have modus 120 shafts on the way, so for now rebuilt them with $ taper 120s, and while I don't like them, they are encouraging. My biggest concern was whether they would get me to my carry numbers that my short irons in the 790s had.
After two rounds with them, the PW actually carries a few yards more than its 790 counterpart, and the other irons seem to hit my old carry numbers.
I did bend them strong to blend with the 790s, but don't like the handle being too far forward. I may re-weaken them just a touch to get a cleaner setup that I'm looking for at address.
In terms of feel, they feel great.
Not Mizuno butter soft, more Miura dense feeling.
The experiment will continue.
The DF is officially gone. The BF is still in the bag, still looking for the magical shaft though.
And for the 3 wood, going to an old trusty Fujikura Pro73 shaft, first round with it was pretty solid, pretty flat ballfight.
