So qualifying came and went, I came up short and it’s all my fault.
It’s always the Indian not the arrow, but I made two bad equipment decisions that didn’t help the cause.
going to 9 degree loft was not an issue, but playing a softer shaft definitely was.
the tp6 I played is tipped. I went with the vr6 which, as a mid kick shaft, felt should be less punishing on high right drives, and it was, but it actually turned over too much. It was jarring to see a few drives end up left of my target line. You know that ballflight you get when you over power a shaft? That straight ball that curves oddly in the air then tails left of line? Got a few of those then I started to try to save it and then started missing right.
second equipment mistake was using the spider x. I told myself all year that the Cameron with its lighter weight and no grooves gave my much better pace control. Putted great with the Timeless on my home course all year, but because of all the rain we got, the course was going to be slow and the greens should have been as well. So I brought out the SpiderX. As soon as I got to the practice green I knew I was screwed. I was dead wrong as the greens were brought up to speed beyond my expectation. Should've done the "bring two putters to the course and chuck one right before the round" method.
the 300 mini driver remains a great club for me, nothing more to say than teeing it low and hitting down on it like a three wood gives more great consistency off the tee.
the tsi2 hybrid.
bought it, immediately put the Ventus hb in it and did not like it. Found an old Hzrdus smoke (non rdx, I don’t like the rdx line), and am hitting it great. It’s funny because this was the last hybrid on my radar because on paper it had the least amount of tech, no carbon crown, no low face strikes technology protection. Well, it flat out works.
Now that I’m in trash golf season, things on my radar:
experiment with comboing ctaper lites with normal ctapers in the short irons, or may go dg120 all the way through.
u505: love my u500 but still curious.
2019 p790s: I’m still keeping my 770s but while I had plenty of gripes on the 19 790s, the 2021 p790s don’t appeal to me at all. Some 19 790s might be great for the traveling bag setup.
