Well as fate would have it...I’m out of data on my phone so I couldn’t go live. I did take a video of my first swing with the driver though.
This is my first Callaway driver. I’ve been a Taylormade guy basically my whole life. Flirted a little with other brands here and there for fun, but always come back to TM.
I got the Ping g410 LST last year, and loved that. I was hitting it great until it broke last weekend (epoxy fail). I got the Mavrik to see what all the rage was about.
First impressions:
The sound was...different. As I said I’ve always been a TM guy. It wasn’t bad. It was actually delightful. Just different. More muted you could say? I'm not great with words when it comes to feel but that's how I'd put it.
I think the 8 gram weights were magical. Made the head feel like a great swing weight. Just felt right.
Onto the shaft. I got the new 2020 graphite Design AD XC in 6x. No tipping. I was warned by @Bomber to not do any tipping as the shaft is very stout. I was actually shocked; as I've played a stiff my whole life, and thought this shaft wasn't enough for me. I was hitting more draws than I was pushes. Most were straight, but the miss was a 15-20 yard draw.
I'm not sure if it's the difference from playing a 2º open driver for the last couple years going to somehething "Square" or the profile of the shaft isn't quite right. Granted I only hit about 20 balls with it, if that.
Overall I hit some missiles with it. I actually had to put the loft back at 9º, as going down to 8º was too low (my Ping G410 LST was down to 7.5º)...The trajectory was very good with the 8gram duel weights and the 9º/Neutral setting.
I had two crying kids at the range, so it was hard to get into a groove. I'm hoping to get out once or twice more before I play this weekend to give it a full first impression review, but thought some of you would enjoy the first reaction.
More to come!
