Hey Everyone,

Long story short, I'm having some driver shaft/combo issues and would love your opinions on what to test.

I have arthritis in my wrists, so last year I moved into all lighter weight shafts. I am currently in the Ventus Red 5s Velocore with a Sim 2 Max 10.5 head. Over this past winter, I have picked up a good amount of club head speed from where I was when I was fit into that combo. Through a few rounds this year, I have noticed my drives are going REALLY high.

I played around with a friend's QCQuad and had some pretty telling numbers (see below.) Because of the arthritis, if I go into a fitting without any direction I am doomed to be in pain. Based on the numbers below, is there anything in the 50 gram class you all would recommend I try? I plan on going towards 9 degree heads for sure.

Swing Speed - 100.7
Ball Speed - 142.8
Launch 17.2
Spin - 3425
Carry - 256
Total - 272

kmac03 I would try a different head first then search for shafts if that isn't the best either. Shaft is secondary when it comes to height

    dbenick3 precisely

head is 75% of it. Shaft is the fine tuner.

Id look at a lower lofted head. 9° to start.

lower loft (static) will produce lower dynamic loft ultimately which lowers launch angle and spin.

Yeah everyone else nailed it, 17 deg launch 3400 is screaming for a lower lofted head.

The crazy part is last year I was launching it 10 and spinning like 1700. I was considering a 12 degree head…swing changes!

kmac03 different drivers also launch different. Taylormades I was playing at 10.5 turn down to 9.5 with a 1 degree sleeve. Callaway triple diamond I am playing at 8

The others are right that when trying to affect major changes to launch conditions changes in club head properties are THE way.

shafts are important, certainly, but perhaps not in ways and not as much as we’ve been lead to believe by people trying to get us to buy their shiny, brightly colored crack cocaine they’re selling.

kmac03 have you tried “lowering” the loft of your current driver first? Only thing to note is that will slightly open the face and flatten the lie angle.

ForeLeft yes, I did hit this afternoon with it lowered to a 9 degree setting. Ball flight was better, but I was still getting a ballooning ball every once in a while. Could attribute that to the open face push.

dbenick3 what are the major pros/cons of 1 degree vs 2 degree sleeves?

kmac03 face angle for me. The sim2 was to closed. With the 2 degree I didn't hit it high enough at 8.5. With the 1 degree it let me set the face where I wanted it With the right loft.
