Hey guys,
@conorgolf22 and I are good buddies, and I’ve talked to him a lot about this subject. When I was at pinehurst this October, it was the first time since purchasing my new irons that I traveled outside of the St. Louis area. I noticed the turf interaction of my hmb irons at pinehurst to not be as consistent as my ap2’s. What I noticed was almost like the feeling of a snap hook shot with an iron, but it was going straight, just not as far as before. I felt like I had the yips. Went home, no problem hitting the irons. Fast forward to end of November, at sweetens, Same thing happens again. I decided to try the irons one more time in February at Disney, same thing again! Switched out the irons when I was in Florida last week to my ap2’s and man was it good. Consistent launch and yardages.
i looked at the bounce, leading edge, lofts, etc. and all states that they should actually perform better from tight lies than the ap2’s, but i was not seeing it. I’m wondering if the sole width in association with the bounce, is causing my strike issues. Now i am not saying I’m a ball striker, but I am a single digit handicap. I was wondering if the bounce loft was causing my issue? I went 1.25 degrees upright to make it the exact same lie angle as my ap2’s, but the only outlier is the loft is stronger on the hmbs. Any input?
