Any TV guys in here? My bro swears by OLED. I have heard great things about QLED as well. I think I have my mind made up on Sony 80J after a lot of research between LG C1 vs Samsung 90A vs Sony 80/90J

ckay I went down this road fairly deep last year and ended up with Samsung QLED. But then there are all different numbers and models and one years model may not be as good as that years model and blah blah. Honestly man it gave me a headache about half way through trying. I believe mine is a QLED series 8? 85”. It’s awesome if you have high ceilings it does not look overly big. But it’s big enough to announce my dominance when someone walks in the living room. 😂😂

OLED is honestly awesome, but I'm not sure you'd notice a difference after a few weeks between an OLED and a high quality QLED. You can get a much larger, high quality QLED for less than a smaller OLED. I own a 65" OLED, but I wish I went with an 80" QLED instead.

Agreed with everyone above. I have a QLED right now and can barely tell the difference.

You mean you guys don’t just buy the Sony on sale at Sam’s or Costco and upgrade 4-6 years when the pixels start to stink? The last thing I needed buying my daughter a Samsung was downloading another app for another device, the Samsung was great besides that. 🤦🏻♂️

Noyes26 the rabbit hole is quite deep. The OLED vs QLED debate is strong online and when viewed next to each other on YouTube the differences are definitely there. But as @ssacks and @titleistforged say, I wouldn’t even notice unless they were next to each other. My brother who’s swears by OLED put it as simple as possible. “Dude you’re TVs are 10yo. Anything will look better than what you have!”

Putterho I have 2 main tvs that I’ll buy quality. That’s my living room and my basement (which is getting close to upgrade time). The rest of my TV’s are cheap Roku tvs so that I can streak Comcast without a box. Those are always the under $400 on sale TV’s

Television? I take my golf cart over to TPC in about 73 seconds. Plus I don't have TV, but we subscribe to Amazon Prime. iennis Yeah, I read that the Sony panels are made by LG. The XR processor is the difference in the final output. I think I will just pull the trigger on the QN90A for the living room and wait for the 90J OLED to drop in price when their new model comes out.

As for the Frame, they are coming out with a 2022 model that has a matte finish to make the artwork look more realistic. I don't know if you are actually going to use the art mode on the Frame which is what you are paying the premium for. My wife likes the Frame also but I also asked her if she planned on displaying photos or artwork on it when we aren't watching TV which led to a maybe, which to me is a no.

For our bedroom, we are just picking up a lower end Samsung 4K. Their 7 series is around $500.

ckay I responded, can we just buy the Sony at Sam's for $700, get the clip on mountable frame from Wayfair for $30, and save clipart from the internet as the screen saver? Immediate eye roll as she gets on her conference call from the bedroom because I still have bought that $600 mesh wifi 2 years later to reach the office. In my defense if the wifi can't reach the kids rooms upstairs at least we can all be a family downstairs while using our streaming devices.

geaux Yup, I don't know the release dates on the 2022s but I read about the refresh. Take a look and see if those updates are worth waiting, or if the current model suits your needs as surely they will be see a price reduction.

I will say a lot of the “this looks better” stuff is very light dependent as well. That’s one thing I do remember is the people asking me the lighting situation. I don’t remember which is better for when there is sunlight and which was better or didn’t matter if there is just no light. Wish I could be more helpful.

QLED and similar are best for rooms with uncontrollable light such as the Sun which is why they are tuned brighter. What you gain with the brightness compromises the black tones. OLED is ideal for rooms in which you can control light such as a basement or rooms with limited windows. My issue is that I just went down the rabbit hole and made this way more complicated than it should be.

With that said I am going QLED as the living room has big ceilings, windows, and skylights. Stay tuned for soundbar vs surround sound rabbit hole 😂

ckay ARC > beam. I have the arc and ones set up as surround. Also have a few others through out the house. I do not have a sub but I’m sure there is a thumb benefit for it for sure. I bought my dad the beam with a couple ones. It sounds good but you can tell the difference between mine and his IMO. Plus if you are hanging your TV, the arc looks so sleek under it.

For me anything you do with Sonos you can’t go wrong. They are so simple to control, so simple to set up, so simple to link up together and it’s a great premium sound at a fairly affordable price. If you are a Costco member, they have a little lower price I believe for a two pack or the ones.

I honestly can’t speak highly enough of Sonos.

I have an arc with sub setup and surround speakers, with moves in various rooms and the effect of the sub throughout the first floor is felt.

I had no idea I would learn so much about tvs today. But instead of scrolling hours on the internet when I’m digging into TVs. I’ll just reread this thread next year. Or better yet resurrect it and save 28 billable hours.

My primary TV just started crapping out, so I got a Sony X85J (55 inches). I liked that it has 120hz refresh while the Samsungs in the same price range only had 60hz. Felt like I got a good price on it at Best Buy.

All I know is that it's a big upgrade from my plasma from 2007.
