Lucky to be heading to Tampa FL next week for work and able to get some solid golf in. Will be my first time playing with a caddy. Should I take my usual Linksmaster bag or older Stitch SL1. Stitch stand isn’t in the greatest shape any longer but still serviceable. If Linksmaster is better choice, single or double strap? Any other words of advice for me in terms of what to ask caddy, etc? TIA

seeshawn Linkmaster single strap. They enjoy it. Take out all things that you won’t be using to have bag as light as possible. If you’re asking about tip, it really depends on course but $100-$120 is pretty much the base every where. If you feel like they made your round more enjoyable and saved you some strokes, give more.

seeshawn Im one of the weirdos that likes the caddy to keep all of the headcovers on my woods/hybrid as well as putter. I usually tell my caddy to please leave all headcovers on before we tee off and they are typically cool with it. One time I forgot to tell the caddy this and after my first tee shot I came back to see every headcover was off and stuffed into my bag. I was shook and was like yeah…we are going to need to pull those back out. 😂🤣 I would recommend your bag with the legs, especially if they are carrying two. Just easier to set both down and then shoot yardages for you and your partner. I am also that psycho that will also shoot yardages. No disrespect to my caddy but I like to shoot a couple of things and its easier for me to do it than ask the caddy to shoot a tree, edge of bunker, etc. I tell them its not that I dont trust your yardage….just trying to do things quickly. Once again they are typically cool about it. If you are comfortable reading greens let them know that. If you are uncomfortable (like @macgeng and I were at Galloway) I tell them Im going to need them on every fucking putt. Helps them start giving me a read the moment we get on the green and keeps pace of play up. Ive had awesome caddies and terrible ones. If you get one you are not meshing well with, dont ask for reads and dont ask for yardages. They will get the picture pretty quickly that they just need to carry the bag and keep your grooves clean.

I’ve only had a caddie twice. And both times it was a single bag. I swapped everything to my Mackenzie bag and they said it was the most enjoyable bag they’ve ever carried. Light is their friend.

ForeLeft Mine probably thought that on the first tee until Army Golf ensued. Good news for him the bag kept getting lighter and lighter as the 12 balls slowly found their way out of the bag.

Linkmaster fine. Single strap. Tell them if you want headcovers left on...as mentioned above. Let them know if you need anything at anytime. They can text in and have anything run out to you...drinks, cigar, smokes, etc. Take good care of the caddy if he/she does a good job.

Given that I'm a miserable prick I usually ask them to leave me alone (literally) and tell them if they manage that well then I'll tip them extra. I'll shoot yardages, read putts and manage head cover situation on my own but don't mind help locating errant shots.

I'm not good enough to have someone running after my ass all day or telling me where to hit because I have no idea where it's going anyway. I feel bad for whoever gets stuck with me, especially if it is hot out.

seeshawn Old Mo and Concession are both on my FL shortlist. I like the idea of a single strap Linksmaster. He/She will be used to that Linksmaster bag at Old Mo since I've seen a lot of them the last year. Seems like the bag of choice there.

Linksmaster with single strap will be fine. Have gone that route a number of times to date. Lighten bag as much as possible as mentioned. Talk to your guy/girl and try to establish a rapport ASAP....this will make it more enjoyable. If you get a dud, like was said, start doing your own stuff and they'll get the hint. Enjoy!

Also, i always try and rake when possible, especially if they are double bagging and have to get across a fairway quickly…

TFixer5 had a caddy at postage stamp replica in Vegas. I was struggling to get out of trap. Caddy came into trap and reached for my club and said “here, let me show you”. I freaking lost it on him. That guy is why Doc isn’t my worst caddy experience.

ckay If you putt inside 5 feet or so, he’ll walk up before you can and use your wedge to hit it in. Gave a 15 minute putting lesson on 16th at Stonewall last time while we played 17 with other caddie and 2 players. Then took off bib to play 17. He got mad when he couldn’t putt out because the group behind caught up (we were 3 holes ahead early on). He stalks my one buddy as local member who overtips. Can’t play stonewall with that friend anymore haha
