Protecting the goods

I just picked up my Titleist T100s irons yesterday (full WITB post coming once my bag arrives) and am heading to central Florida on a golf trip June 3rd. I am one of ‘those guys’ that has a hard cover travel bag, but I am interested in protecting my irons While I travel ONLY. What is the best option? Cheap iron covers off Amazon????

I think hard covers are overkill and make it hard to travel once you get there....take up so much space.

for the irons, just weave a towel gently (not tight) in and out of all the iron heads. You'll be fine.

ForeLeft it is a bit of a nuisance, I agree. This trip we get a 16 passenger van that picks us up and takes us to our destination. Then back to the airport. All my buddies give me plenty of sh*t though!

I use a towel but you can get some iron covers if it makes you feel better.

Two additional options that work pretty well depending on your bag:

Flip your irons upside down in your bag so the grips are sticking up.
Put your socks over each iron (4 pairs will do it) like iron covers but way less dorky (though stinky on the return trip)

So in my experience, I don't care if the irons hit each other, but I use the Stiff arm in a soft case. I wrap the stiff arm because the brass endings on that leave big ass scrape marks on the iron heads, that annoys me when the top of the face has a huge scratch.

So I wrap the stiff arm in my towel to make sure it doesn't scratch the faces, I don't mind banging chatter though.

Ask any shop that carries ping if they have the free black iron shippers. Use them to travel and put the in the outside pocket of your clubglove when you get there. Shops just throw them away.

Has anyone tried traveling with driver/ wood heads in a carry-on bag recently? I’ve seen mixed responses online about TSA allowing this

Jake I always take off my driver and three wood head.

Stuff them in the headcovers and pack them in my carry on. I have never had any issues with TSA!

Jake I was almost taken into a secret room my TSA because my driver head was in my bag. They told me I was carrying a bludgeoning object.

damn near missed my flight.

0/10 would not recommend.

I was like are you kidding me? I flew from Minneapolis here with it. But it’s an issue going back? Never had this issue before.

Made me go check my bag in. Was past check in time, so they said no guarantee it makes the flight. Thought I was gonna have a heart attack.

LAX almost confiscated my 3 removed putter heads from my carry on bag 5 years ago thinking they were brass knuckles or something. I had to literally prove to them that they were just putters and why they weren't in my golf bag. The look of insanity when I opened a contact lense case that had 2 part epoxy for reinstallation with a couple of toothpicks taped to the case was comical. Now I just put putters in the bag upside down and hope for the best. Apple air tags are the jam.

I have taken my wood heads off the last 3 times i have flown and put them in my carry on with no problems. I also pack my irons all together in one slot in my golf bag to reduce chances of being damaged. I travel with a soft bag with a stiff arm and, knock on wood, have never had problems. Stiff arm has been shattered and bent, but clubs have always been 100% good. Just make sure to wrap a few towels around them, rain jacket or pants, and then put rain cover on bag after the stiff arm before you pack it in the travel bag.
