My partner and I went to the PGASS between meetings today. He's a social golfer and plays when we are sponsoring an event or taking clients out but he is getting more serious about the game. The longest club in his bag is a G30 4 wood as he didn't like the "watermelon on a stick" look.
He tried an 11.5 and a 13.5 along with some sort of SIM 2. The SIM 2 was all over the place, reasonable considering how much longer it is and his overall angst against that style of club.
Bottom line, he walked out with an 11.5 on stock stiff and will be using it as his driver. 220 carry, 15* launch, 2800 spin. Baseball grip chopper but he says he feels really confident with the Mini at address. Toe side misses are slicing from his chopping action, but when he middles it starts left of target line and comes back onto it. I think he has 15-20 additional yards in him as he puts time in learning how to hit it.
Cycling between the SIM and Mini 11.5, he wasn't leaving anything on the table distance-wise but gained significantly more playable misses.
