I am not surprised that they cancelled most of the event for the year but to cancel qualifying for the US Open is a little harsh to me. It’s called an open for a reason. I would also like to know how they are going to play the US Am when most of the players get in through qualifying. I was excited to try and qualify for the US Mid Am this year as it was pretty local to me. I also wanted to see Kinloch on TV but that won’t happen anymore. This year it looks like tournament golf is going to be a wash.

I saw that post yesterday on Instagram. Like you said, completely removes the “Open” aspect. Not to mention they also had already canceled the US junior amateur and the US girls junior.

Cancelling this early is crazy to me. if we are phasing back to normal life, why would we cancel stuff so far in advance? Pro sports are back...so why can't Am stuff be? Cancelling the US Am would be nuts, considering how many implications it has....Masters, Open, Walker Cup, etc...

its very sad for the upcoming pros who are trying to sneak in and make a name for themselves. I feel like the USGA has just been steadily declining as a governing body, almost getting to the NCAA level.

Eddie the only USGA stuff being played is for the pros and the US Men’s and Women’s Ams

I had a 10 foot putt last year (US Open Local - Houston) to shoot an even 72, missed it. Pissed me off until an injury to the left hand. I, like everybody else, have been grinding to get back to the local and try and make magic happen. It’s pretty upsetting that they shut down US Open and US AM qualifying and completely cancelled the US Mid AM. But, what can you do 🤷‍♂️. Texas AM qualifier is late June so I have that I guess.

I can only speculate but the logistical difficulties of figuring out which courses are prepared to host qualifiers and which are not was probably a factor. Having enough availability to allow for both fairness and maximizing a competitive field is a difficult task even in normal conditions I'm assuming. Also, the rules on bunker rakes and flags (although it would be nice if someone stood by every hole to pull the flag or rake the bunkers for the players 😛). Would they play with modified cups or regulation?

I'm still bummed though. I was planning on registering for the Mid Am qualifier at Valley Club of Montecito (Alister MacKenzie) later this year. Has anyone played it?

I think every state (and county) having different rules as it relates to bringing golf back makes it different playing fields...and you may be able to qualify under certain circumstances in one state, but not another.

Keeping it as fair as possible it probably their vantage point. Can't please everyone...and the safest bet this year is to just make it closed...which I'm fine with this year TBH.
