Butler National/Medinah Country Club (Thoughts, etc.)

I was recently invited by a good friend at my club to go on a trip this coming July to stay/play at Olympia Fields. While I'm out that way, I would really like to try and get out on either Butler or Medinah the Thursday before heading out to Olympia.

First, anyone have a connection or advice on getting a foursome (or two) out at either club? Second, anyone played both (or either) and have strong opinions on either?

Would love to hear thoughts on either of the courses. Thanks!

DaHOF buddy of mine did them all in 2019. Said Butler is as good as it gets and he’s a member at a top 100.

Good luck. Have your pro send an email / make a phone call. There are ways to get on almost everywhere.

Yeah, let me clarify. I'm checking to see if anyone has a contact or knows someone there. I will go the "usual" routes with one of my clubs, but figured I would check this way as well. I've also heard similar comments regarding Butler.

Medinah is the lowest on my places to play in Chicago. I’m more interested in playing it again once Ogilvy and his team put their hands on it.

Butler is good. It gets lost among the best of Chicago but is a solid middle of the road course.

Pick Butler 8 out of 10 times

Butler over Medinah #3 but don’t turn down Medinah if offered.

Sleeper - Chicago Highlands. New course, very private, but something to look into

You will have a good time at Olympia Fields. I was a national member there for five years and it's a fun place. And please play both golf courses. The South is super fun and 6 South might be my favorite hole on the entire property.

Medinah 3 and Butler are both super hard.

If you can't get on one of those, give Beverly CC in Chicago (Ross) a shot. Tyler Rae finished work there last summer and I would be very surprised if it doesn't get in the Golfweek Top 100 Classic. It's really, really good and the club is great.
