gfranktw7 I hope yours treats you well too. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed playing a driver with even a little bit of MOI to it until Doc Hocknell and his crew gave it back to us this year. The heat is still there like it’s been, but there’s an ease of use now that’s been missing for quite a while.

PLEASE don’t dismiss me as some kind of fanboy or Callaway honk. My bag looks the way it does because I have a weekend job with them as a Master Fitter doing private, more in-depth, full bag type fittings than you’d get at a more traditional demo or fitting event. I’m not in marketing or sales so I leave that to those who are and do my best to remain objective about our stuff as well as that of our competitors. I’m still a golfer and competitor so if someone else makes something demonstrably better I’ll put it in play unapologetically. Great example of that was that before the XLS ball recently came out, I used other companies’ balls for 4+ years because Chrome Soft just didn’t hack it for me.

Bomber you won’t mistake the impact feel and sound with Apex Pro for a traditional one piece forging, but it’s a pretty neat trick how close they are to that when you consider all the tech bells and whistles integrated into them. I find them to provide just about the right amount of help at the long end without looking or sounding offensive. all that said, it’s still pretty likely that a set of TCB’s tries to bump the current setup out because that’s the depth of my sickness...LOL.

What was wrong with the TCBs? Was it a looks at address thing or performance?

Eddie Loved the look of them initially, just could not hit a cow’s butt with a banjo when playing them. Hit some shockingly bad shots with them and far too few good ones, and after a while there was just too much mental baggage to overcome. Probably not fair to them that my back felt iffy the whole time I was using them, but it doesn’t entirely explain how poorly we got along.

First round with the new iron set-up was Sunday and the first time I broke par since the back problem in January. Yes my back is better, but I’m simply more at ease looking down at the X Forged than I ever was with TCB. Nut case, yes, but there it is. 😂

shank_guru don’t really have a set goal in mind regarding speed and distance; just want to keep the overall trend going in the right direction. Got some longer term playing goals that I’m working toward and this is part of that. Time is undefeated, but going to fight it tooth and nail.

also, consider that this chart is showing distance potential, which the app calculates based on 90* air, 1000 ft of elevation, semi firm fairways, and a perfectly optimized drive. So no, not seeing 334 off the tee here at sea level with fairways that are far less than firm. Did see 171+ ball speed on Trackman today, though, which hadn’t happened in well over a decade.

Hard Lesson learned as player and fitter this weekend; there’s a huge difference between making an iron look right on the practice tee and in goof-off rounds and being in the right iron at winning time.

I’m in the wrong iron model, made obvious by the clown show that was my approach play in my club championship this weekend.

TCB, and it’s not their fault. I’m just not the same guy with same needs on the fitting tee that I am when adrenaline and competitive nerves start firing.

Built up a Rogue ST Pro 7i as close to my spec as possible and hit a large bucket this morning. The result was intriguing.

In the heat of the moment, was it lateral or distance inconsistency?

I'm asking because I'm almost the opposite direction with my dilemma. With my 770/790s, I found that adrenaline and a lot of less than perfect lies meant I was able to carry the ball further than I would normally do. So while giving the 8iron a little extra to cover a 170 carry was ok, where this really messed me up is when I was looking at in between yardages, and because my 3/4 swing resulted in me really delofting through impact, was consistently hitting them the full number. Then of course I tried really smoothening out the 3/4 shots which resulted in hitting them a touch fat or leaving them out to the right.

just enough of both to really hurt. Over and over, just seemed to pay a high price for strikes that weren’t great but weren’t THAT bad.

as documented, have had a hate/love/just not that into them/abusive relationship with the TCB. Want to love them and they sure are pretty, but their capacity to cause pain is a red flag.

As I was driving home from the range this morning, I asked myself if it’s more fun to play the same iron as Rahmbo, Xander, and Burns or to hit shots like them a whole lot more often. When put that way, the answer and ego’s capacity to damage are both quite obvious.

Chubbs01 was it a day of awkward yardage for you or just messing up stock distances. You are a good player, some days we don't have it.
I am also a big believer in more spin than optimized is better. Unless you are cruising at 127 swingspeed, 193 is a touch to far with a 7 for me. That ball doesn't stand a chance staying at your number with firm greens. Just my opinion with the fitting side. I like to see different numbers for myself than when trying optimize a 5 hc

dbenick3 agree completely that stock lofts are way too spicy, and if I take the plunge on ST Pro it will be with the lofts weakened 2 degrees. Spin that low will not work at my home course where the Bermuda rough produces some of the gnarliest fliers you can imagine. Should mention that I hit that whole bucket from a mat to avoid tearing up our range, so that cuts some spin artificially.

think the issue is that my set-up is ok when I have my A stuff, but when I don’t the drop off in performance is too much. Need to stuff the ego and set up a bag that I can scrape it around more effectively with when not humming on all cylinders. I went into the tournament way behind on sleep due to RSV sweeping through our family, but that stuff happens.
