A couple of my senior buddies love their 7Ws. So, maybe I think of it as an old-guy's club (even though I now am a senior myself.) In my view, neither of them is a "player," so what they think doesn't really make much of an impression on me.
I play a 917F 15* 3W and then a 818H2 21* hybrid, before I get to my 4i. I love the look of a small headed hybrid. It gives me more confidence at address, so I'm not sure what I'd gain by replacing it with a larger headed 7W. Yes, it flies higher, but my hybrid gets me more distance and usually lands softly enough for my needs.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new TSi 2 3W and a TSi 3 20* hybrid. We'll see if that changes the dynamics, but I doubt a 7W will ever replace a hybrid for me. But, never say never. I'm getting older. Hell, I could be playing a 5 & 6 hybrid in 10 years! I'm just not yet ready to do things that feel "old" now. I'll stick with my AP2s, T100s and T200 in the meantime.
