Where do I start? Been MIA from golf forums for years.. used to love this kind of thing but couldn't even tell you what the current models are from the past 2 years and haven't been golfing as much either. Currently a 3 handicap.. about 5 shots above where I was pre-kid. Insert a million of other life things, I've only been able to play about 20-25 rounds a year in 2018-19, and hit around 40 this year. Previous to that I was at minimum 100 rounds a year plus tournaments. I had a hand surgery and have been battling tendonitis in my elbow, my SS is still around 117-122 so I still have speed, but mishits hurt a lot. Right now I can shoot around even or slightly under, or 84 on any given day. Starting to play more so I'm starting to see the patterns in misses again and really wanting to improve my game and my equipment. Current bag: Epic Flash SZ 8 /Hulk 65 Epic Flash SZ 13.5 /Hulk 85 PXG hybrid 19*/GD Hybrid 95 Miura 501 4-P/X100 Miura 50,54/X100 Vokey 60V/LZ Getting fit today for irons.. woods will be later when new models are available to be fit. My shafts will definitely be graphite - so MMT or SF 110-115? For the first time I really have no idea what I will be fit into. I was really looking at a Honma combo set or PXG Gen3 set.. but I don't have time for another round of equipment "whack-a-mole". I do want a "cool" set of clubs, but I also want them to be more functional. Any suggestions, feel free to share. I'll report back with my fitting stats later this week.

Pure745 I joined there in 2006 and used to check it religiously. Now, I basically just get on there to see the WITB and this is the site I am checking religiously.

I think you should try the new Srixon ZX line of irons or just get JJ's old 745's to match your user name. I'm being slightly serious unless Srixon's aren't cool and then I will have to reexamine my WITB. 😆

I would second the ZX7. Other than that, I have a set of Yonex CB-301 irons which are really goo imo.

Putterho if Tai buys Srixons I will change to them as well 😂

I still browse WRX for the classified and the tour/pre-release stuff, otherwise the site is a bit boring/quiet now. Hence this place! Nice looking WITB and looking forward to seeing what you get fit into @Pure745

Love the write up but I think you should wait and give the new Apex Pros a look. Mine are on the way and I also made the switch graphite this time around. Steelfiber 110 in x flex, coming from x100. I loved the higher flight and my wrist loves the feel.

Honma update:

I think the star of the show is the TR20V (players CB), for whatever reason, I love the slightly thicker look - which is weird coming from a blade purist. I think the slightly thicker profile makes the overall shape look better. The blades are gorgeous, but slightly a little rounder in the short iron.. kind of like how the old Mizuno MP irons were perfection 5-7 iron.. then when you got down to the 9 and P they looked round and weird.

The Vizard 100 is a solid "stock" offered shaft. It definitely feels "graphite" (ie. Fuji Pro, MMT), dispersion is surprisingly good. The overall feel is great, but don't shoot me, NOT as good as the PXG/Steelfiber. I can't believe I just typed that.. but I need to get the PXG on course to really say for sure. In 2 rounds fresh out of the wrapper, I have hit some insanely good shots and am very happy with this set. They could stay in the bag now and be better than the Miura's (mainly due to how good the V's are in the mid irons) - but not as good as the PXG, again waiting for my actual set to compare.

21X 3iron - low spin, knuckle balls.. amazing as a driving iron, not so great if you are trying to hold a green. Incredibly good looking compared to other driving irons I have hit.

20V (CB): I would place these between the T100 and 620CB, a home run of a set. These in SF vs. the T100 and PXG would be interesting. Looks, feel, performance are up there - would highly recommend.

20B (MB): Definitely an MB, slightly larger and rounder profile. Very playable, especially with graphite for me. I think the new CB's are so good that, for me, I'd only play them up to an 8 iron. They are very workable even with the graphite, you can go up higher maybe 6-7 iron, but at that point I would strongly recommend that 20V.

Wedges.. meh. the 50, 54 are good, the 58, I'm just used to Vokey.

Looks: 11/10.. they look SO GOOD. In bag and address.

Brand: Honma is very hit or miss.. I think they've missed the "cool factor" mark a bit - but regardless, anyone know knows anything will appreciate what these clubs are. If you're bored with the revolving door of big OEM releases and the frequency of rebranded and marketed similar clubs.. I would urge you to hit these.

I might take more detailed pictures of these to show - I think this set is good enough where it would be worth sharing more details.

Sorry for leaving this thread hanging, but it's been long enough to give a solid review.

So in the bag now:

PXG Gen3 T 4-PW Steel Fiber 110x
PXG Forged 50 and 55 Steel Fiber 110s
Vokey Raw 60D (custom grind to play like V) Steel Fiber 110s

Starting off with performance - these are insanely good. They also feel incredible. It's a bit different than the traditional forged blade type of feel, but when hit flush they are very pure.

I think the most noticeable feature is how forgiving they are for how small/good they look. My miss is typically a dumped under wipe or my hips sway and I'm open at impact and the ball falls short and right. That miss is now on the green and in some cases, close to the hole. Pretty blown away with this miss.

The other part is the distance - this set loves to be hit hard, where my blades I'd find myself carving or taking off the longer club. My swing and the clubs respond to hitting the hard shot. I had my first SCGA team play match and these performed as expected. Played a "2" who had 4 birdies in a row, 2 on stroke holes for the team and I ended up coming back to beat him down the stretch 1 up. On my off shots, I was still on the green with a long birdie look - basically he would have to birdie to beat me - no giveaway holes.

Very happy with this set - they look really cool in the bag, PXG has a good reputation around here, and you're starting to see more and more good players with them in the bag. I can't say the same for the previous Gen irons as the Gen 1 0311T is one of the worst sets I've hit.

Would recommend these to anyone in the market.

Next - Driver and 3 wood. 🙂
