ForeLeft I would look to see which watch you absolutely love and just save for it. Personally I wouldn’t hop buy pieces to bridge the gap. I’ve had a few to scratch the itch and while I thought I loved them, a few months later I didn’t feel the same way.
If you can try it on, do it for sure. I love the Speedy and think it is a great piece. Do your research on what true market prices are. If you go new, know what type of discount you can pull. If you go used, there are quite a few dealers like DavidSW you can trust and he’s willing to negotiate.
I’ve gone through a few different watches and never thought my lifer would be a Submariner Date but it is literally a do-it-all for me. Suit, jeans and white tee, bathing suit, it just works.
I am always looking at other pieces but nothing “sings” to me at the moment. I think the only piece I would commit to is a white DaytonaC like every other person out there.
Lastly, if you plan on traveling abroad go on a watch hunt. You may find what you’re looking for and able to take advantage of VAT refunds.
