  • Custom Bettinardi Twisty Neck Putter (Expanded Mail Day)

Well, if @Eddie asks for it, he gets it. I recently obtained a very special putter from Bettinardi Golf, so I figured I would share some photos and back story to how it came about and how AMAZING this thing turned out.

Almost half a year ago, I was discussing putters with a buddy and he mentioned Bettinardi putters. I commented that I always admired some of Betti's work, but I hadn't played/gamed one in years. He made an offhand comment that he knew Sam Bettinardi and we discussed how much the company has changed in the last couple of years (marketing, designs, etc.) Well, of course one thing led to another and I started looking into a custom putter.

The putter itself was made for a variety of reasons. It was a lot of back and forth before the final design was settled on. In addition to this, there was an interesting process with plating issues, redos, etc. However, after all was said and done, I finally got the putter in hand this week and it does not disappoint.

The putter itself is the BBO head style (very newport/anser-like) done in a purple pvd finish which came out with RIDICULOUS purples, blues and golds. It has a welded on high polished twisty neck. The head itself comes in at 355g as requested.

The putter itself is a spin on things that I enjoy as well as some personal meaning. I will explain below, but as you can see there is a Top Gun theme tied into this putter.

The cavity of the putter has "Watch the Birdie" in dancing letters. This is from one of the famous scenes in Top Gun (if you know, you know). It also ties in nicely with golf in general when it comes to actually using your putter. Additionally, the bumpers have spider webs (also, a play on my last name) that tie into the face of the putter. The topline and bumpers have been hand softened as well (or rolled). The site dot was originally supposed to be welded but they had some issues getting it to look right, so we ended up going with the Tour Bettinardi logo on top.

The face of the putter has the Spider Web fancy face (again, a play on my name). Additionally, it has the Shaka hand as an ode to the "Aloha" lifestyle (if you ever saw my wardrobe/house/office, you understand). It also has the "BB0" with the 0 actually being the Bettinardi Hexagon logo. Additionally, it has the weight listed as well as it being a true "1 of 1"

The bottom of the putter is the most sentimental part. There is obviously the Bettinardi "Fat Cat" logo along with the added cigar and glass of bourbon, two of my favorite things in life. Additionally, the entire putter is engraved with "Maverick" and "Goose". While most assume this is based on Top Gun (and to an extent it is), it is actually homage to my two dogs. My current dog/puppy "Maverick" and my English Bulldog who passed away last year after 11 awesome years as my best friend "Goose". Additionally, while I usually play a putter with a sound/beached slot, that would've messed up the bottom of the putter, so it was suggested I try the bullet holes. So those were added in.

Finally, this thing is shafted up with a wild purple PVD shaft playing at 36" with a wicked Blue Gator grip. Obviously, light blue and white paintfill throughout for UNC (with a little pop of neon green just to mix it up). This thing turned out amazing and I'm very happy to have it in my putter stable. Here are some more pictures of the putter. I cannot get all of the colors to show up as much as they pop in person in the sun. I'm hoping to get it out and give it a roll this weekend!

Dude that thing is crazy looking

I was wondering when it would make its T&C thread appearance! Crazy crazy crazy hues on the new gem.

I'll read this in full in a little bit, driving right now, but my favorite thing on your putter is the vertical oriented alignment, i FUCKING LOVE THAT.

That thing is pretty sick J. Please tell me it’s not a wall hanger.

Simply amazing. I want that putter shaft!

So like .... are you putting sole tape on it or doing the damn thing?

dphatt It's going into play tomorrow. @Putterho I usually put sole tape on all my putters just because I hate running into sanded greens at a course when I'm not told beforehand. Other than that, she will be rolled just like all my others. #nowallhangers

I indeed game everything I buy and this putter is no different. Took her out for a maiden voyage in my Saturday morning money game. Felt very solid, but will take a little adjustment period as it isn't beached. However, she got a ton of looks and comments 😁

          That thing is beautiful
