My father-in-law wants to start playing golf. I left him with a 6 iron to hit foam balls around his yard and we went to the golf range for the first time a couple of weeks back. He did a great job of making contact off of the mat and getting the ball in the air. He wants me to outfit him with his equipment with an "unlimited" budget but I am going to minimize the cost as best I can.
With that said, he doesn't strive to be an excellent golfer(as he says) but rather wants to be able to go out with the guys in his development when he retires next year and just have a good time.
Got me to think that the path of least resistance in getting consistent is through a set of single length irons. Plus they're pretty inexpensive at this point and I figure a 5-PW set up will make the most sense. He's 6'3" so I am thinking of finding a +1" for him.
While I feel that this is the best option, what do you guys think?
