Hi All, Well first round back in 6 months and my 7 iron appears to be about to break lol. Coupled with a broken 9 iron that I haven't had fixed yet, it's time for me to pull the trigger on a fitting here in the next few months (likely going to wait a bit so I can try the new TM irons since I've been a TM guy for the past 2 sets). I'm looking for a good place in LA or the Bay Area (nothing really good down here in San Luis Obispo sadly) to go get fitted. I'm talking a full on fitting with tons of shafts, recommending loft/lie adjustments, length adjustments, etc. Mainly focused on irons but may as well try out shafts for my driver (M5 that I don't plan on changing) and also maybe a new 3w and hybrid situation. Not really looking to get my clubs built there but rather just get all my specs and have someone else build me something. So not looking to be pressured into anything crazy in terms of up charges on certain things. Does anyone have a tried and true fitter that they would recommend? If I already know I want TM should I just see about getting a fitting down at TM in San Diego (my homie does live in La Jolla)? I'm not opposed to other irons though just always liked TM stuff. Really just looking to get a set that is going to likely be my last one for a long long time and I've never had anything fit to my before so looking for that good good recommendation. Thanks! B

I would check out Cool Clubs or Club Champion. You'd be hard pressed to find more options anywhere else. The fitting fee is a small fine to pay in terms of the knowledge and options you get from the experience.

Good friend of mine is manager at Club Champion in Santa Monica, Ca. He's name is Jason Franklin, was an golf professional at Pebble Beach Company for 4-5 years. Great guy.

I’ve been to the club champion in Santa Monica twice. Not bad. I prefer outdoor fittings though. The Cool Clubs in Irvine has a fitter named Josiah that does a good job.

If you can’t find an outdoor place then Cool Clubs or Club Champion would be your best bet since they have the biggest selection. Just try and find a good honest fitter as not every fitter is the same.

I HATE indoor fitting with a passion. With that being said, I think you really have two options. Do either Cool Clubs (if you want to try everything) or go to TaylorMade (yes, Cool Clubs in Irvine is outdoors). Frankly, if I know you and in reading between the lines, I would lay 10 to 1 odds that you will use your connect, save some coin, and snag TM gear. If that is the case, just go directly to TM for the fitting down in Carlsbad.

There is one other independent fitter in Carlsbad I would recommend, but that is probably a moot point given the above two scenarios/options.

DaHOF You know me well indeed homie! I'm going to ping my buddy down in SD who I think has a buddy that works at TM to see about getting a fitting. Do they do them outside of The Kingdom or is that the only spot to get a specific TM fitting?

If I end up at Cool Clubs in Irvine....might have to get the crew together for some golf and all you can eat brunch goodness at @jlevitt9 home club 😉

J is 100% correct.

To this point, if you have a friend, getting an invite to the Kingdom shouldn't be hard, the key is whether your connect can get you the fit for free or not, but getting in should be doable.

If you make it down to Cool Clubs def give a heads up to get together. If you want to go to SD for a fitting, I have been told True Spec at la Costa is really good. An ex Titleist TPI fitter. It’s outdoors.

Eddie Yah I'm working the angles. I think if you get referred in it is cheaper than the standard $5-6K pricetag which I think comes with an entire custom set. I think to get fitted if you are referred in by a TM person it is like $500 which I will gladly spend to get my specs for a set.

@brushie thanks for the tip on that place. I might actually be headed down to SD soon anyways to visit my homie (if The Kingdom falls through) so I'll take a look at that spot.

While the experience at the Kingdom might be cool...would you rather spend $500 to be limited to one brand and their set shafts? or $400 and test everything under the sun, and have access to any aftermarket shaft you could dream of in every head combination as well? That's just my vantage point.

@Moni_SLO Joe Kwok here in the Bay is a name I hear often - however, he seems to mostly fit JDM/Callaway. Indoors too, in his like garage or something.

I've heard Club Champion would/should do the trick. I've been meaning to go to one myself, but just lazy/like to "fit" myself.

ForeLeft Very good point. I've been a TM guy my whole serious golf life so naturally I am biased toward that (plus the potential discount connection....times are tough on my wallet lol). The more I think about it, the more I'm likely going to hit up True Spec down in La Costa. I'll wait a few weeks/months though so they can secure that new new from TM 😉

I did a Club Champion fitting here in Charlotte and felt like I really got a lot out of it. The only negative is I felt like he was a little Callaway biased so i can't help but feel like it could have been just a touch better. The data I got out of it was great though. I took that information to my normal club guy to compared against my fittings with him and had him order the clubs for me. Eventually I'll do another similar, maybe True Spec at Pine Needles, to compare.

Moni_SLO Worst case scenario, you save money on the fitting at true spec, and get to try other shafts not available by TM to see if it gives you better fit. Win/win

ForeLeft Got my fitting booked for True Spec in La Costa for mid-October. Thanks for all the rec's from everyone. Gonna get a round in at Torrey (first time) as well. More to come and hopefully I don't break anymore clubs until then.

I also have a round at Pebble (also first time) in about a month for a bet I won a couple years ago. Sad I wont have a new setup by then. The new Mac will be coming with me along with the about 12 complete clubs I currently own LOL
