There’s a lot of talk about pressure putting on here these days, and with events kicking back up and events approaching, I think it merits its own thread.

Ive noticed that going left hand low for me has helped me be able to control my speed a lot more.

The big thing, especially on faster greens, is that I tend to get so defensive on downhill putts, which is fine, but stay that timid on uphill putts which always end up short, then I overcompensate when I putt conventionally, and I blow putts past, and then leave the treacherous downhillers coming back.

Putting left hand low these days has me apply all pressure towards the target at address, with the shoulders rocking and my right forearm being the main controller of speed. I’ve found that in pressure situations, it’s helping me level out my pace a ton. Conventionall putting wise, that right forearm has too much range of motion that my speed can get erratic, but left hand low, the right forearm is tucked in a lot more and less able to over or underexert.

Also, I’m really appreciating ordering my Timeless at a lighter headweight, especially on downhill side hill putts, I felt more control over the head so I can modulate speed.

The aspect I’m still struggling with is speed on side hill putts. Especially on putts that go up at first then go downhill, I’m trying too hard to hit the perfect pace, I need tips on how to better assess those putts, most notably the right to left uphill then downhill putts.

Post up what you are struggling with, what has worked for you, and let’s all make more putts with event season kicking in full gear.

Best putting season I ever had was when I first picked up Aimpoint. I practiced learning the slope % heavily with my digital level, and before league I would always take out the PLG green reader and roll 5 foot putts for 10 minutes or so.

This thing GROOVED the stroke...and did wonders for improving my confidence too. My stroke always just felt different after practicing on this thing, and it worked amazing during my rounds.

I need to get back to using this thing....

Today, last week, and a month ago...

Three different qualifiers. All pretty clutch putting rounds. 77/77/85🤦‍♂️

I’d say the constant in all three were from 5’ and in, I didn’t miss. I may be 100% from 5’ and in.

I practice the living shit out of 5’ and in. I’m talking, maybe 150-200 putts from 5’ and in every time I go out to practice. If it’s raining, I putt to a can of nuts (insert joke). I believe that those are the most important putts. For a couple reasons.

    1. Lag putting. I absolutely SUCK ASS at lag putts. If I get it to 5’, I’m not super nervous.
    2. Par saving putts. When I can chip to 5’, I feel good. I’m like, ok I can make that.
    3. Bogey saving putts. Super crucial to make from 5’.
    4. Blowing a putt past. If I’m 10’ out and want to blow through a break, the 3’ come backer isn’t going to ruffle my feathers.

There’s no secret (long lasting). There’s no trick. There’s nothing you can do besides practice. When the pressure is on, in my mind, I go back to the practice green, standing in the fucking sunlight, at 2pm, humidity through the roof, sweating through my pants, and tell myself, you’ve literally made 1000’s of these. This is just one more. Roll the shit dude.

Some aids I use, the Pelz Trainer thing with the marbles and an alignment stick. I go straight back and straight through so the sticks help a ton. Also the place 4 tees around a hole and if you miss one, start over. That’s some fucking pressure. I shit you not, I’ve spend 30mins on one hole before. That final putt, THAT was pressure.

bigjohntripod I practice the living shit out of 5’ and in.

Ain’t this the truth. I moved my putting green to the living room and practice putts every free second I get. It’s unbelievable how much more confident I feel from 20ft in now that I’ve hit these putts a tons of times.

    ForeLeft

ive always been curious about aimpoint, did you do the full program or aimpoint express?

Eddie Express. Even the instructors say full is too much.

You guys crack me up 🤣🤣

yes my house is a mini golf store, it’s worth a walk around, maybe I should put a register at the front door🧐

Eddie Sources have rumored that Season 3 of Holey Moley has moved locations to Choi's house.

My problem that I tend to have on pressure putts, especially those 5-8 footers, is that I grip the putter way too tight. This causes me to push putts. So something I have had success with is while I’m aiming the putter I squeeze the grip as tight as I can, and then release it as almost a trigger to start my stroke. This allows the putter to swing freely and I get a full release. This also causes me to 99% of the time I make sure I get it to the hole.
