When parents of junior golfers say "WE."
Don't get me wrong, I love my kids more than anyone ever could. But WE are not playing golf...my kid is. They aren't OUR clubs, they are my kids. I didn't make a double bogey. My kid did.
All this language does is remind me of that Netflix documentary "Trophy Kids" that ends up leading kids to hating the sport rather than loving it.
I love golf, and I know my son really does to (almost 4 years old). He comes into my office 10 times a day begging for me to take him. I love it. However, I'm not going to push him into anything.
My plan is to give him every opportunity to play at the highest level, whether that be the best clubs, a home simulator, etc. But if he loses interest or doesn't want to pursue...that's fine. I want him to enjoy the game and be able to play it with me until I'm old and can't play anymore.
I don't know why, but the terminology WE when referring to your kids golf game or any other sport just bugs me. They are the one putting in the work, the blood, sweat, and tears. We just foot the bill, provide the transportation, and encourage/support at all costs.
