That one Totally Out of Spec but Dead Perfect Club...

As tournament season is close, it's time to bench the Acushnet Timeless and put the full GI mode putter into play.

I was thinking about getting the Squareback 2 as I really like it, but remembered there's one putter in my collection that is my goto.

Now there are some things about it that initially drew me to it.

One, the 330 headshape is a great one, but the WBW without a line made my left eye dominant ass stop worrying about alignment and let me putt freely.

The specs on this aren't anywhere near what I thought I use.

531 total weight, D3 swing weight, flatso grip that is crooked and way open. way flat at 68 degrees and 3 degrees of loft.

But every putter since this one, I have tried to replicate in terms of weight, specs, even grip crookedness, and the magic is still not there.

The only saving grace for this putter is Phil still uses a WBW variant here and there, so I guess that makes it somewhat cool?

What club do you have that you would never spec or anticipate getting, but once you had it, is a lifer?

Eddie I don’t have any that meet this requirement and I think that may be part of the problem... I used to grab more off the used rack or out of a buddies garage and just run with them. Specs never checked or fitted. Just game it because it worked. I actually played better that way. Probably time to try it out again.

Whenever I play with my friends I’ll grab clubs from their bags and try them, and not ask specs etc, if that ball is magical, I’ll make an offer. That’s been the best way for me to try equipment without dialing in specs 🤣

It's this lob wedge. Got this of the bay a few years ago. Some form of low bounce K-grind. The grooves are gone, but it is the most versatile wedge I've ever had.

Golfingfanatic this is a zero bounce 60 degree that was made for the British Open. I still have one of these stored somewhere. Chips would come off super low with massive spin.

Likely only out of spec by what most would play today as a 2i (hollow body driving irons w/graphite) and part of a full set of irons but this is easier to hit than would seem possible. Don't take it out often but do enjoy it from time to time.
