I just wanted to share a “quick” story about love and kindness in the midst of this crazy time we are going through.
I sold my putter to a gentleman a couple days ago, and after the sale we started texting. Like most golf nerds we hit it off and started talking golf courses, headcovers, et all.
Out of the blue yesterday, a golf pro friend of mine asked me if I had any backup drivers laying around. Being a lefty it’s hard to find equipment for other lefties in need. A maintenance staff member at his course doesn’t have much money, and wanted to upgrade his clubs, but was to shy to ask anyone at the club for a discount (like PUD). Unfortunately I didn’t have anything, but I reached out to this new lefty buddy.
He said he had a garage of a handful of old drivers, tell him I’ll give him whatever he wants, for free, just cover shipping.
I passed that along to my pro buddy and he said no way. Not 2 minutes later, the kind hearted donor said, matter of fact, I’ll put together an entire set for him and send to him, again just pay shipping.
The maintenance staff member broke down in tears.
I asked the donor why? I can’t share too much as I don’t want to call him out, and I believe in anonymity when it comes to donations. “Glad to make someone happy. With all the bad shit going on, there will be a shining light for this guy, and that’s how we do it…one at a time!”
I am so thrilled to be involved in this “transaction” and to show there’s so amazing people out in the world. In golf, a sport mostly associated with “rich white men” and country club life styles...I think there are way more Good people than the media paints there to be. I don’t care if you’re black, white, green, brown, or yellow, everyone has good in them, and if we start on that at home, and try to share that good to other people, we can make the world a better place.
I hope you were touched by this story, and may it serve as inspiration to some others. Reach out to your club and see if there are any staff in need. Your local junior high or High school team to see if any kids need new clubs. The first tee, the kid down the street. Anything.
I know we all love to collect clubs, but if we can help grow the game to someone in need that can’t afford it, “that’s how we do it...one at a time.”
Happy Thursday y’all. Stay blessed.
