Just got back from visiting one of my best friends in Houston. Played some amazing golf courses and just wanted to share my experience.
Day 1- Lakeside CC
Off the plane and to the course. One amazing clubhouse and super nice facility. The course was in pretty good shape, but a lot of the holes were just ok, nothing super memorable that sticks out about the layout. The pros and staff were super awesome and would love to see the course in peak season condition.
Day 2- Bluejack National
This was the most immersive golf experience I’ve had so far outside of national competition. Place was amazing, staff was amazing, course layout was amazing. 10 hole lit par 3 course and putting green was a blast (played it 4 times with my buddies after 27 on course). Course was in great shape, but the greens had some issues with disease and freeze, still were firm and fast though. Having been to Augusta a few times I can say this is a great homage to ANGC. Course is DEEP from the Tiger tees, plus blowing wind didn’t help. Pro shop was awesome and everything was done above and beyond. Smokehouse on 12 tee, can get a drink whenever you want, golf scooters and an amazing vibe.
Day 3-Moody Gardens
Public track on Galveston island, fun and open layout along the water with possibly the worst finishing hole. Greens were great and weather was blowing on the island. A fun place to play some G and tie a few one with my buddy. 27 holes of fun.
Day 4- Galveston CC
The venue that had it all lined up. Course and greens were in the best shape of any of the courses we played. Setup is fun and challenging. The wind was HOWLING and I played my best golf of the week that final day. Shot 1 over with 3 doubles. Greens were pure and fast. A great way to end the trip and fly back to fresh snow in CLE. Staff at Galveston are amazing people and pros are so welcoming.
Trip takeaways: the bag setup has changed for the better, I’ll update my WITB with details, but a sneak peak is that my putter was WORKING for a change. Bluejack will be tough to beat but I have a great benchmark for when I head to Bandon at the beginning of May. The srixon zstar diamond cover is soft and not durable, back to XV or Pro V. I love Texas and love warm weather. Any questions feel free to ask!
