Fascinating turn of events. I have to admit I enjoyed watching TXG content, and based on the press release, TXG is acquired by Club Champion, but Matt is leaving the operation. I know Matt through a mutual friend in the agency space. If CC bought TXG for its media capabilities, I don't see how it would be good without Matt. If CC bought TXG to expand its operations and reach, I don't see why they couldn't just open more shops themselves, it's not like they haven't had a robust store opening operation up for years. While I don't really care at the end of the day, this one is a fun head scratcher.

There's a whole bunch of speculation floating around as to why it happened. Struck me as odd as well when I read about it. Based on what I have seen on TXG's channel I think Ian is a pretty top notch person and comes off objective and Matt was a great sidekick. I hope Matt got a boatload of cash for the business/partnership and it wasn't a situation where he had to take the offer or lose the business. The upfront costs of the business can't be cheap, and based on what I have seen about CC in the past, they're not a profitable entity either.

Eddie From what I listened to in the live stream yesterday this was a way for CC and TXG to both branch into the different markets. CC for Canada and TXG for the US. Also I think TXG finally realized the capital it would take to expand even in Canada.

Unfortunately, I think this is the end of their media as we know it.

As much as I have enjoyed TXG content over the past few years it got a little stale of late. It just felt like all of the vids became 'Hulk smash driver'. Their lesson content was good but infrequent. Hope it works out for Ian regardless, gleamed a lot from them early on and hopefully it was a good payday for TXG crew.

Won't be the same without Matt and Ian. End of a good era - I learned so much from watching their stuff.

Jaybananapantsarthur I agree with this as well but I still enjoyed some of the things like the “match” between Matty and Mac. Ian is obviously top class and I’m sure this will be great for his business but I do have to wonder about conflicting ideologies between the two brands. For e.g., if I recall correctly, Ian has been pretty adamant in the past that Trackman was inferior inside but CC bases their whole fitting on Trackman.

geaux They are still going to be using GC quad from the live video. Obviously time will tell buy looks like all branding for TXG is staying the same. Did think it was kind of rude that the rep from CC that came on the live stream was not in a office and in the middle of a hitting bay with people hitting clubs behind him.

I’m a bit jaded by equipment reviewer YouTube content as well though.

Funny side story, last year we tried to make a video testing auto flex shafts… and it really sucked LOL, so where I give txg a lot of credit was for raising the bar on those kinds of videos, even with Matt and Ian cherry-picking shots to show on screen, getting a repeatable consistent golfer on screen is really difficult. We cut about 90 minutes of video from two cameras and maybe 2 minutes of our ringer pounding drives was usable, the rest was garbage 🤣

I'm not trying to hate on the new guy ( i know he's been around), but even if he's not engaging, if he could drop some technical knowledge, it would be passable, but he's just dead weight on the screen.

Eddie Mike is really great on his podcasts. He is one of their best fitters and builds almost all clubs that come in for txg. I think he is camera shy, from when Matt took a health break he was on most the live videos.

Their latest shaft test video was rough. I miss Matt for sure, was nice having a reliable swing to try to squeak some differentiating points from compared equipment.

Did they mention why Ian didn't test the shafts?

Eddie I agree the shaft video was not very good. To me, it's not even a TXG thing. All these equipment reviews on youtube are becoming a bit stale imo.

I've unsubbed to their YT channel. I agree with most that the reviews are stale but I appreciated the synergy between Matt and Ian and that's gone so it makes for rough videos... Matt has his own channel coming so I'll sub to that but we'll see how it pans. As much as I love the consistency of Matt in the TXG vids, I don't know how well he'll be on his own....

food for thought... does anyone see Matt turning into a Trottie / Johnny Wunder for Cobra or Titleist? I just literally thought of this but think about it Wunder had a social media following before he got with Callaway. Trottie is a bit different but he's kind of TMs social media guy now... Cobra has a barrage of people but... and Titleist could use a social media presence... JAT (no pun intended)

pfdz I actually like JWunder and appreciate that he isn’t all Callaway and still tries to keep from being over bias. Good move by Callaway in my opinion. I don’t know how he really helps Callaway but I know I like following him.

So Flaniganbuilt putters posted on an IG story a week or so ago that Matt bought up an indoor performance center style area and was going to be starting up his own gig there here soon. It deleted before i could screen grab it. Idk much about TXG but if he’s the skill and tech behind it. His new venture could be a good one

Putterho I agree he does a great job and is good on camera with the pros etc. Talented Guy.
Personally I find him to be insufferable on Instagram when he does his lives and AMA's, comes across a little pompous.

Will be interesting to see how Matties subscriber numbers on YouTube go up. I followed at around 6.5k a few hours ago and looks like he is at 7.2 already.

agreed. I liked txg because Matt, with a combo of good editing, was like a human robot with great launch conditions, so equipment comparisons had enough credibility to want to watch, but as soon as I saw the clusterfuck that was the Ventus TR review, I went back to athletic motion golf for my YouTube golf binge.

im not hating on the new crew, still applaud them trying; a year ago we cut 1.5 hours of video reviewing the auto flex shaft, and it was so god awful that I said it’s no use trying to edit 🤣
