Something that has been helpful for me over the years is having a ritual and place for everything to go in my bag. Wallet and keys go in the right valuables pocket. Rangefinder goes in its Bushnell case. Ball mark repair tool and ball markers go in a dedicated pouch in the valuables pocket.
When I deviate from my ritual I lose things or have to tear apart my bag to find the thing I was sure I put in there, so I make it a point to slow down and put everything where it goes.
It helps to hum Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place" as you do it.
Sorry to hear about your rangefinder, @Eddie
