Sandhills golf

Going to be staying in Raleigh for one weekend in July. Want to play golf with my father in law. Planning on going down to the Sandhills. If you were to play one round where would you play? Note I have played Tobacco Road and loved it. He has not played it.

Number 4 would be the one I would want to play. 2 gets all the fan fare but 4 is just as good

dphatt Agree completely with Don here. I played 36 holes with #4 in the morning and #2 in the afternoon and while it was an amazing day and #2 was just special for obvious reasons, #4 was just as good in my opinion.

@DaHOF was just at Pinehurst and can comment further on the condition of #4 since I played it a few years ago now....

#2 is just so good. Steeped in tradition and a very playable course. #4 is next on my list. Ask for Darryl Phillips as your caddy at either.

bigjohntripod Hahaha absolutely! Funny enough I birdied the first hole of #2 (and the church bells went off while we were walking down the fairway which was dope as hell) and contemplated retiring from golf altogether at that moment. Think I went on to shoot a 98 or some shit 🤣 🤣

@ncc I literally just got back from North Carolina last night. I gained a new found love for Number 2 this year versus previous times out there (even if we played the tips and my body still hates me). I used to prefer 4 over 2, but after this weekend, I am back to giving a slight edge to number 2. A sleeper course (in my opinion) is #8. Great Fazio course. Off Pinehurst, taking out Tobacco Road which you've already played, I would also throw into the mix Pine Needles.

DaHOF Second the Pine Needles plug, loved it out there and cool rustic vibe at the bar/clubhouse after. I also played CCNC (both courses) and Forest Creek (both courses) while there and they were awesome. Not sure if you can get on to either but great options as well.
