This is the time of year where I start trying new things. I have been a BGT stability convert ever since I have put it into my SpiderX. When I go back to normal putter shafts I feel the shaft move and I preferred the extra weight that the BGT gave me. I have tried the standard and tour versions of the BGT and I prefer the standard one. When I heard KBS was introducing a similar shaft I was intrigued. @Putterho had one he wasn’t using and asked if I wanted to give it a try. The only problem with the KBS One step was that it would only fit on straight shafted putters. With all of my blade purchases this winter, I decided to put it into one of those.


I chose the Olson because I was able to to take it out for a few rounds before the weather turned bad. Olson uses a KBS shaft and I have no clue which version it is. The first few putts with it I felt the shaft have give and I had some of the worst putting rounds in years. I haven’t had a blade in the bag in a while so I am also blaming that but I hated the overall weight and how the shaft felt.


Once I received the shaft I was not really impressed with the looks but the stability shaft wasn’t really a looker either. I installed the shaft and noticed the swingweight jumped 6 points which made me excited. I also chose a Gripmaster Stitchback which is also a little heavier than what I normally use.

Once installed I noticed the thicker part runs higher than the stability shaft. The look reminded me of the UST. The waggle test made it feel like there was some give to it so I was already not excited. I hit a few putts and there is a slight give to it but not like the stock KBS shaft. I think it sits in between the KBS and BGT in terms of feel. The one thing I did like was the overall weight was much improved. I had more confidence and was rolling putts into the hole with ease.

As I type this snow is falling so I won’t be able to test this on the course anytime soon but I am excited about it. Will it beat out the SpiderX? I highly doubt it as I feel like I am a devoted mallet guy now but I would be very curious to see how it performs under pressure

Interesting. I actually enjoy a softer shaft in a putter. I think it helps my lag putting a lot. Some of the old Ping Ansers and Wilson 8802s have the best shafts for me.

    DaHOF I’ve stopped worrying about stitchbacks. The 2 major stitchback companies are so inundated that wait time for grips is going on 3 years. There is a seller on eBay selling them for $9.99 though in discontinued colorway.

        @dphatt can these shafts go into a Spider X Slant neck? Also, how would you compare the feel to the stock CT Tour shaft TM uses in the Spider X’s. TIA

          seeshawn yes these fit. .370 tip. It’s definitely stiffer and a touch heavier than the CT

            I just did one of these! I definitely like the extra weight, and because I put it into a normal length plumber neck, my "one step" sits lower than yours, so it looks a bit more even. If anyone is interested I can upload a pic.

              I've got one on order for my Spider X - a touch heavier and stiffer than the CT is about what I am looking for. Excited to try it out.
