Disclaimer, I learned how to golf in my 20s, never had a paid lesson, mostly just @dphatt post round range sessions, and I enjoy the music and alcohol aspect of golf so this would be a huge adjustment. Pro move here, brought 2 high noons with me, when I pulled into the parking lot I poured the first into my yeti, off to the range, back to car to pour in the second…just to calm the first tee jitters. Got my first tee shot airborn with a 4 iron, short par 4, but bad break into a fw bunker so made bogey. Went par, bogey, par, when @dphatt rolled up to “caddie” lol. Nothing super cool from me, my driver was probably the best it’s been in quite a while, but that’s about it for positives. I pulled a layup tee shot OB, borderline shank of a layup, hit a few trees, had 2 4-putts and 2 3-putts 🤦♂️. I bombed a drive dead straight on a hard dogleg right on the 16th hole that literally hit the marshall’s cart on the fly to save from going OB, and made par after paying him off lol. I ended up shooting 42-42, with a career high 41 putts, 84 gross 77 net which was good for 7th out of the 17 in my division. All in all, I’m proud of myself for getting out there and experiencing tournament play, for setting a goal and achieving it (top 10), and gaining the confidence that I can compete on some level. I think I’ll be back, but I really need to work on my layups and short game, one dimensional with the driver can only get you so far, especially on a short layout like today. Celebration beer time!
