Following is a great way to get notifications whenever there is activity on a thread, without having to comment on it. To follow a thread, simply swipe left on it and open the thread menu (the three dots). Then press "Follow".
Tired of the notifications? Either unfollow the thread or update your notification preferences in your personal settings.
