Headcovers - Course Logo vs. Branded Headcover

Curious if and why people prefer a course logo headcover vs a branded headcover (could be Scotty, PG, TBC, SWAG amongst others).

I used to be big into Scotty covers but most are randomly designed headcovers with no meaning to me. I’d say as the Scotty covers got more bland over the past 5 years, I’ve switched to Golf Course headcovers of courses that I have played.

I understand this is a preference thing but I’m curious if others feel like me.

I have a mix of things.

The Cameron covers have gotten stale and I don’t remember the last one I bought. He still makes good ones but they are for the gallery.

I rotate covers from courses and different brands. You won’t see me with a Club manufacturer’s cover unless I am testing different woods. It’s the only way for me to remember to pull it out of the bag before I play in a tournament. I learned the hard way once when I pulled out the wrong driver and left it at home before a tournament.

Outside of the stock covers, I only own 1 other “set” for my clubs. I try to make them memorable.

My driver and wood cover is from the club I interned at this summer. My hybrid cover is from my home club and my putter cover is from Sweetens which was some of the most fun I’ve had playing golf

Besides the Titleist leather headcovers, the OEM headcovers all look so gimmicky. I don't mind getting other headcovers that aren't course headcovers and just for the color/pattern/etc. I play all course/tournament headcovers currently because they all serve as great memories. My driver is the club we were members at before I aged out, my 4w is a cover from Bandon I got when my dad and I played in the Solstice event in 2018, and my hybrid is from a tournament I played in for several years with a good friend and had a blast. They all bring up sentimental thoughts and since I've switch to these, I've only bought covers with a memory attached to them.

Interesting topic. I didn’t realize it but I do have a lot of course covers and boutique brand covers. I like to split them up in the bag going 1 course knit, T&C cover, a boutique line, and usually a Scotty or other putter cover. If I’m playing like crap then it’s all OEM covers and no swagger.

Yeah when I'm feeling good about my swing that day, I'll bust out the fun/special ones, but if I feel slumpy/woke up on the wrong side of the bed, I'd just pop in the stock covers and call it a day.

I guess about 3 years ago I got pretty tired of Scotty covers. The ones I really wanted would cost me so much with living on the East coast and I just decided that hobby of collecting wasn’t for me any more.

Now everything is pretty much course covers. Unless I throw a Spider in the bag, I have a few mallet covers from SSG and Gibbons that I like.

Noyes26 it’s amazing how many people still love the Scotty stuff that has gotten so bland over the years. I have purchased maybe 1 cover a year for the past 4 years. I keep my membership open in case there’s something cool like.... there hasn’t been much. Well I did flip a bag last year for a few dollars. Didn’t feel bad about it either since my wife lost her job due to Covid for 6 months.

I'm all about course headcovers. My reason is simple: I don't want my buddies to know when I have switched out a club.

Yes, I like to tinker and I don't feel bad about it. But, in addition to usually being ugly and cheap, OEM headcovers scream that you have new toys in your bag. A club cover is more stealth.

And, frankly, a nice leather headcover is a nice thing to have.
