The other day I went to hit balls and my goal was to test the MMTs in the P770s. During the middle of the session my friend brings over his Modus 115 shaft and asks me to hit it. I didn’t even ask him his thoughts on it so I wouldn’t have any biases. A little background info on myself. I love the Modus 120 and it’s always my initial go to for any iron set. I have always loved how it felt and the results have always been good to me. I have tried the whole Modus line and the two shafts that have never felt good to me were the 105 and 125. I have always felt like I would do well with the 105 but it’s always felt light and boardy to me. The 125 was heavy and boardy. When I first heard that the 115 would be available in Black I wasn’t too excited as I never liked how the black 105 looked as it was a matte finish with the red logo that just didn’t look expensive. The 115 was a totally different finish and it had a shin to it even thought it was matte. Wait. Does that make sense? It’s hard to explain but it just looks great especially with the silver logo. On to the test. The shaft was attached to the Honma Rose Proto, an iron I have never liked. My first swings with the club were really good and I was hitting them very well. I hit about 30-40 balls and this shaft felt just like the Modus 120. The only difference was the flight was a touch lower which might have been the head. If I had to do a blind test it would be hard for me to figure out if I was hitting the 115 or 120. I was impressed. I then asked my friend what his thoughts were. He was hitting the Modus 105 in these Rose Protos before switching to these. He said the 115 felt too soft to him and was considering hard stepping them as he liked the numbers he was getting but not the consistency. Overall I think Nippon has another winner in an already great line up with shafts than can suit almost any player. Once my P770s arrive if the Modus 120s don’t work I might have to change to these just based on the looks alone.

Putterho Yep. That's the problem. I have the same issues/results as @dphatt with the Modus line. I was sort of hoping he would say they played more like the 105 or 125 and he hated them. It would've saved me some money. Oh well, such is the life of a club hoe.

Dropped off the shafts to my club builder and hoping to put them in play next week, weather might get up to 50 degrees!

Mine don’t arrive until Tuesday so with any luck maybe will be able to build next week and hit over the weekend. But maybe not.

Jaybananapantsarthur the new Srixons. Originally was going to do it on the TMs but I have given up on seeing that set anytime soon. Frankly, I can’t see anything beating out my Miuras the way I’m hitting them. But, I love to tinker anyways.

brushie sort of the same. have 105x testers in 5i and 7i. if I swing like a maniac they aren't any good but if I put effort into transition they're significantly better..... but I don't want to be smooth, I want to thrash around and should probably stay in the 130g class. someday I'll learn to not buy things that don't suit me.

What drives me nuts with Nippon is that the 125 is heavier than the 130. That makes no sense whatsoever.

Golfingfanatic the 125 is an odd bird only jumping 1g in weight between flexes. Not until X flex does the 130 weigh nearly the same (as the 125x).

Mine are built and about to be unbuilt because the iron heads are on the move to someone else. I got 18 holes in with them and didn't find them any better or worse than anything else in the Modus lineup where the 130x still reigns supreme for me. Will likely install them in another set and spend more time with them but won't be in a rush to get em built.

Jaybananapantsarthur "in a rush" is a broad term/phrase considering you have enough iron sets to cycle a new set in every round and likely not come back to the Modus 115 for 6-8 months while doing so.
