I have been waiting for my second set of P770s so one of my friends asked if I wanted to try his set with MMT 105TX soft stepped once. Will Peoples built this set and these were the following specs. Swing weight and measurements were based off of the 8 iron.
STD length 36.5in
Swingweight D2.7
MCC Plus 4 x1 wrap
MMT 105TX soft stepped once
I warmed up with my iron first and then moved to the 8 iron with the MMTs. I didn’t take any measurements before testing so I did not have any biases towards the clubs. My first initial thoughts were these were extremely heavy and boardy. After a few more shots I finally got used to the weight but I could not make consistent contact. I took about 25 swings with the club and I had to know what the specs were. To my surprise they were actually a touch lighter swingweight than my gamers but the overall weight was 23 grams heavier than my 8 iron. For comparison sake the specs on my iron are below.
+.25 to STD 36.75
Swingweight D3.2
MCC Black +1 wrap in the right hand
Modus 120s
I took a few more swings with the other irons and the only iron that felt good to me was the 5 iron but it still felt heavy. If I had to compare the feel and weight of the shaft it was close to a DGX100 which absolutely hate. I asked my friend who works for MCA on the tour and he said that Ancer actually plays the 105TX soft stepped once.
Overall I still think the MMT shafts are as close to steel for a graphite shaft but you have to try these out before buying them untested. I did try another shaft while I was there that I loved but that will be for another day. 😉
