Gap Wedge Bounce

Time to replace my gap wedge, the glide 2.0 stealth 50/12 I’ve used for over a year has served me well but I’m itching to change some things in the bag.

I didn’t even realize that this wedge was 12 degrees of bounce, I’m looking at a vokey to replace it, stuck between 8 and 12 degree bounce models.

If I go with the gap wedge as an extension of my irons then I’m guessing lower bounce is correct. My sw and lw are both 11-12 degrees though.

however one thing I’ve enjoyed with the 50/12 is when chipping I can’t remember a time where i have hit a fat chip with it.

what are you guys running bounce wise ?

I’d tell you, but I 100% don’t know. They put a bevel on my wedges so it ain’t even matter chipping wise, I could do whatever.

The previous one said 8° but had a grind on it. Maybe 4°?

I have a 50/08 Vokey f grind. Works for me.

I don’t even know really why I even have a 50 though because I pretty much just use the 54 or 58 around the greens so my experience probably isn’t super helpful for you. Haha

Nothing crazy in the gap, standard F grind.

I have found 10 works perfect for me, I get a 52/12f and bend it to 50/10

Eddie when I played Vokey's, I always played the F grind with an 8* bounce. 12* seems a bit extreme for a gap wedge.

I was told to try to match your irons, but if you've been gaming the 12 with success, makes sense to stick with it right? Though, grinds are important too though.

IMO the 8 degrees bounce in the Vokey F grind 50-degree works out very nicely and makes the club pretty versatile if you want to use it around the greens for long chips or low runners. I thought it had less bounce but I think the grind kind of hides it because it looks like a regular iron when I lay it down.

mljones99 Same with me......for some reason when I try and hit a 50 or 52 nice wedge I catch it fat....probably cause I suck at golf lol. I do have a 52 degree that my wife got me that I've never used and it's 9 degree bounce. Almost gave it up for the secret santa but cost too much to ship lol. It will remain in a spare bag collecting dust I guess!

so last season i inadvertently purchased a Vokey 50/12F instead of my usual 50/8F and just decided to use it. 95% of the time, i'm using it for full shots. i felt the extra bounce definitely helped in situations where i come in a bit steep and definitely noticed less fat shots as a result. with regards to pitches/chips, i never noticed the extra bounce. granted i just play the gap wedge square, if i need to open it up, ill use a 54/58 which have grinds more conducive to that.

raywutang I did the same exact thing. Even on firmer/tighter lies, I have loved it way more than anticipated. Vokey F grinds seem to have such a sharp leading edge, and with the 12º instead of the 8º, it takes the bite out of the LE and makes it feel more balanced.

If you play soft bent grass or you have a steep AOA, play the 12. The softer the ground is, having more bounce is your friend.
If you play firm Bermuda or have a shallow AOA, play the 8.
Changing to ping blueprints in irons from mp18s helped my iron play out immensely. I am a little steeper AOA, the blue prints have more bounce so it keep the club on the surface a little better instead of digging into the ground more.

I picked up a gap wedge for the first time in 2020 when the new RTX ZipCores came out a few months ago - I figured I'd be using it for full shots 100yds and in so I went with the 10* mid bounce - I haven't had any fat shots per say but it definitely took me a handful rounds to get used to the head weight(?). The ZipCores overall feel a touch lighter than the RTX4s I had previously but the spin is sooooooo noticeably good 🥰

itssookay I agree. I bought the ZipCores and the first 3-5 rounds I wasn't sure about them. However, after playing 15+ rounds now, I can say they are firmly in the bag and I absolutely love mine.
