Golf Inspired Christmas Presents from Family Members

I know family members mean well when trying to shop for us golf nerds. What is the worst and best golf inspired presents you have ever received that were a complete surprise.

Worst: potty putting mini golf and one of those belt clip 3 ball holders that had a compass attached to it.

Best: Homemade coupons to play golf anytime from the kids and them promising to be good for whoever watched them while I was gone. 👍🏼

worst: a box of martini tees and Callaway warhawk(?) golf balls

best: girlfriend at the time (now wife) stole a ball out of my golf bag to show the salesman at the PGA SS and got me 2 dozen Nike One Tour D balls. She also got me a Scotty Cameron head cover after researching to make sure she didn’t end up with a fake. Thinking back, definitely glad I wifed her up.

I have always told my family that I do not want any golf presents from them unless I am able to pick it out. Even then I don’t have them get me clubs because you all know those don’t stay in the bag 😉

The "don't buy me any golf related items, ever" doesn't work.

I always ask for golf balls. For some reason I do not like buying balls - probably bc I know they will eventually be lost. That is the best golf related present my family can buy.

Worst - foam practice balls that essentially disintegrated after a couple of rounds in the backyard.

geaux She's a smart one. Good thing you did not happen to have a crappy ball you found in the woods. I always grab those balls even just to give away to my degenerate hack friends.

Not by any means terrible stuff, but stuff I don't wear myself. My in-laws got me some Greg Norman and Callaway golf shirts before they were my in-laws. My wife, girlfriend at the time knew I wasn't fond of them. Now they just ask me for some items that I want and the best time of the year to buy them. I think this year they got me a Greyson hoodie and some Asher gloves.

I am a tough person to shop for because I just buy stuff throughout the year as I need them.

my wife won't buy me golf stuff because she knows there are so many preferences and options that it would be a crapshoot. She's the type that will just say "Here's $XXXX... go knock yourself out" and let me get what I want.

Oh I need an edit as I may have recieved the best and worst all in one this year.

I’m a terrible person to get gifts for because if I want something I buy it. My GF has now decided that instead of gifts for occasions she will now be putting money into a savings account with both our names on it towards a goal of $15k for a simulator for “her to buy me”.

The good - awesome idea. I want that and I don’t wear/use the other stuff she has gotten me over the last 6 years.

The bad - it’s a joint bank account. I see what she was really doing there.

The worst.....my father in law (actually before I married his daughter) several years ago got me a roll out putting mat he found at Marshalls (TJ Maxx) that was in such poor condition I couldn't even use it. It was a nice thought but we lived in an 800 square foot shanty with no room for anything so not sure what he was thinking there...

The best....I started golfing at 10 and my family was big and we weren't affluent by any means. Everything was second hand unless my rich friends family (they belonged to the Olympic Club) got me nice stuff. I always loved Titleist since it was the premier brand of the 90s and one year for Christmas my parents surprised me with a denim blue Titleist DCI leather back hat. I never played a single Titleist club or ball back then (always dreamed of a Cameron though) but I wore that hat every round for years. Solid memory right there!

Moni_SLO It's not the value of something that makes an item special but the thought and time that you know someone put into something. Great memorable story and gift Moni.

In the past I would always grab a dozen Masters visors when they were $17 and Slouch Fronts $22 because guys would wear them until they had holes in them. The best under $20 gift one could give!

Putterho ultimately a new house will come before this is installed. Which I have said to her many many times. Maybe that’s also part of this devious plan she has.

Worst: I feel like you haven't lived if you haven't gotten the putt toilet golf thing (i have...twice)

Best: A lot of the time I know what is coming so it's fun and I get to use it, especially as I am older. But back in the day I really wanted the old PT Tiger used and my dad was able to find a minty one. He threw in a Nike 1 iron with it. Could I hit them? Debatable. Was it awesome? Absolutely
